Hello everyone this is a just out of Interest question I have been here 5 years renewed my pension Visa throughout that time never had an issue this time I have just walked out of immigration it has been granted I'll pick up my passport Monday however for the first time ever they gave me a letter to produce the bank account again in 3 months time I can only assume it's because I got the letter done the day before I applied maybe they think that the day after I will withdraw the money would this be correct or is there any other reason why they want you to present proof again in 3 months time

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, who has successfully renewed their pension visa for five years, was asked to provide proof of bank account funds again in three months after their recent visa extension at Jomtien Immigration. This request has raised questions among users in the community, as it appears to be a new requirement. One commenter explained that it relates to a past change in regulations regarding the seasoning of funds, which requires maintaining a minimum balance of 800,000 baht for specific periods before and after the visa extension. It seems that not all applicants are consistently asked to provide this documentation, leading to confusion about the criteria for such requests.

Collected my new 1 year extension today at Jomtien,not asked to show funds in 3 months,keep the 800k in all year though

@Tony ********
, so you didn't get a paper given to you when you applied and paid the 1900baht saying to come back in 3 months with an updated bank book?

my only thought on this is this is Thailand and they seem to change the rules to suit whatever criteria they invent like I said this is the first time in 4 years that I have been asked and the money always sits in a term deposit account

@Paul *****
there are reports of jomtien doing this for a few years,
Tony *********
Yep,a couple of my friends got the letter,even though they have been doing extensions for years,and they also asked why?

@Tony ********
that's quite a few people now that reported they didn't get it and I can't see the rhyme or reason on who gets it and who doesn't. There has to be some criteria I would imagine

Standard procedure

it has nothing to do with the fact of when you got your bank letter for this extension and everything to do with the change of the seasoning of funds for banked money method a few years back

You need to have the 800K baht in the bank for 2 months before you apply for the yearly extension, you need to keep the 800K baht in the bank for 3 months after the extension takes effect (not the date you applied for the extension the date it starts), and after that you need to keep a minimum of 400K baht in the account the rest of the year..

Only one immigration office that I know of gives you a piece of paper when you get your yearly extension that says come back in 3 months and show us your updated bank book <- Jomtien.. 😕

many simply tell you vs kill trees. I know mine tells everyone
Roy ******
Pathum Thani immigration office requires this to
Tod *********
@Roy *****
now I know of TWO then out of the 80+ offices.

MOST offices just have you bring in a year detail transaction report when you get your next year extension (Chaengwattana does this) and they look to see you followed it when you apply for the next extension. What is bad about this IS if you missed keeping the 800K baht in the account for those 3 months after the extension took effect last year you're on a 9 or 10 month overstay when you go apply for the new extension because the minute you failed to meet the terms of the extension it was voided 😮 That can run people right off the rails

Todd. I had to have
*****
0 baht in my account for three months before I applied for extension. I was 4 days short if that initially and was rejected. I went back this week and got my 12 month extension for the first time from Nakhon Phanom.

Sadly
@Nick ***********
that you let them do that is on you. You should have said you wanted to file an appeal in writing and they would have backed down

The rule changed a good while back 😕

The seasoning for a year extension based on retirement using banked money method (no matter how many years you've been on the extension) is 2 months before, 3 months after and then the balance can't go below 400K baht the rest of the year

thanks Todd. I dare not argue with them or risk them losing face as they are difficult enough already. Fortunately I had time to meet their request. I did point out that I could do my 90 day report 14 days early when they asked me to come back on the day and they backed down on that one.

@Nick ***********
know I meant no disrespect to you in my comment,

knowledge is power and just telling you what the real requirements are and have been for at least several years now. Some of those b/s smaller offices up country still parrot that 2 months the first year, 3 months for every year after that <- which WAS the old rule before they went to 2 before/3 after for ALL the years extensions.
Nick ************
@Tod ********
that's OK. It is just so difficult up here. But sucess finally.

I always thought that you have to be closest immigration department to get your visa done but maybe I am wrong I wouldn't even know where there is another one close by
Tod *********
@Paul *****
nope you are 100% correct, you use the immigration office that serves the area where you live so if you're in Chonburi province nearest to the Jomtien Soi 5 immigration office that's where you go.

What choice do I have?

@Paul *****
I have no idea what of the 80+ immigration offices you use and neither this post nor your profile says where you are in thailand 😕

I asked because it's the only one I know that does that with that return in 3 month paper
John **********
@Paul *****
you have no choice. You need to do as they ask.
Tod *********
let me guess, you're using the Jomtien immigration office right?
Michael ********
@Tod ********
Educated guess. The most difficult one to use.
Tod *********
@Michael *******
actually Jomtien is FAR from the most difficult one to use. There are other offices much more stringent in their requirements. Until I was told Pathum Thani also requires you to go back after 3 months to show your updated bank book, the Jomtien office was the only one I knew that did it

@Tod ********
yes I use because that is where I live that is why I am asking are there other any immigration offices I can use Jomtien
Toby *******
@Paul *****
I use Si Racha immigration as its closer to my home than Jomtien. I believe your supposed to use your closest immigration office. Unsure where in Chonburi you are but if your in Pattaya I would expect you need to stick with Jomtien. Never been there but I hear its a pain.

@Toby ******
there is some map somewhere (that I've never seen) that shows the dividing line between Sri Racha and Jomtien immigration offices..
