im trying to come for 5 months but if its a huge hassle or cost too much for visa i will just come for 3 months. now one of your mods suggested to just come over on a two month visa to start and it can be sorted out in thailand (versus a one year visa gotten abroad)

but now i see the stv visa is up and running again. but someone else said that one is a nightmare of forms to fill out. i wonder if the stv is a visa i might want to consider , and what exactly requirements are..........or maybe im better off just coming on the two month tourist visa and extend it a month. giving me three and i will just leave if i cant get more time on the end of that when im thier?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is considering a 5-month stay in Thailand and is weighing their visa options. They inquire about the STV (Special Tourist Visa) which may be a hassle due to paperwork but offers up to 9 months of stay. Alternately, they consider starting with a 60-day tourist visa, extendable by 30 days, ultimately allowing a total of 90 days. Community members suggest the simpler approach of entering on a tourist visa and looking for longer-term solutions while in Thailand.

Bill Trabert you have a variety of suggestions.

I believe that of

is your best bet on keeping it simple in arriving in Thailand with a tourist visa... That gives you up to 90 days in Thailand (60+30).

Then look over your in-country visa options to extend your stay.

Take care...

No disrespect or judgement on this

, but you have been hemming and hawing about this or that visa now for a quite a bit now, all the while lamenting how easy it used to be to get in and how it's not that way anymore. <- It is what it is, deal with it 😕

Get a single entry tourist visa, come in, get stamped in for 60 days, extend that by 30 days and during that 90 days LOOK around for long term options for you.

I think that is the easiest and most trouble free way for you to get in.

It doesn't seem much different than a long stay EXCEPT for the fact that they want your lodging paid in full for the 3 months. That's a nonstarter for me.

and the fact you have to carry BOTH the 100K USD covid insurance AND the 40k/400k out/in-patient mandatory health policy for the entire time you're going to be here (so if it's the full 9 months you need coverage that long)

You said you want to avoid hassle, STV is not for you.

Well ..yes if you want to live in an other country for longer then 90 days…all, over the world ..it’s not easy.—-come with a 60,day tourist visa -…via phuket sandbox —extend here for 30 days .———and if you are here …and like it … you can try an ED VISA ——,,Wams you could go to,school …——or if you come soon …you could get a covid extension after the 90 days …you will get 60,days more..—-and maybe again …..for nothing

Go for the STV, easy, renewal 2 x 90 days, so will give you up to 9 months....

@Roar *******
that is almost TOTALLY false. You jump thru CRAZY hoops in your country to get the STV, you show crazy requirements IN country to get the 90 day extensions and seeing as it can't be switched to any other visa in country unless you're just comin' here staying 9 months and then going back to where you come from it's a TERRIBLE visa choice

May I suggest you look at the Thai Embassy website in your home country and review the requirements for the STV visa...

If you can meet them it is a good choice if you wish to stay up to 9 months in Thailand.

You can research the STV visa online and know that it still is not yet available as the Thai Embassy's await formal instructions to again take applications for it.

what is your home country? Are you there now?

A tourist visa will get you up to 90 days stay in Thailand.

There is no other easy to obtain visa or extension for you once your 90 days is over. As the current COVID 60 days extension likely will end in coming months.
