With the test & go back on this will probably be the best visa to stay up to 9 months.
I also wonder if they would issue a second STV visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the STV (Special Tourist Visa) in Thailand and its potential as a way to stay in the country for up to 9 months, especially with the Test & Go program returning. One commenter notes they successfully obtained the STV in 2021, despite some extra requirements, and were able to extend it once before switching to another visa. The discussion also raises the question of whether a second STV can be issued.
Charles ********
I did the STV in 2021...it was fine... Yes a few extra and annoying requirements but it was fine. Most (all?) of the naysayers did not use the visa.
I ended up extending once, then left for personal reasons, and came back on a different visa.
for the initial visa yes, I used agoda and prepaid and then canceled during the 2 week quarantine at the time and found a condo to lease. On the extention in bkk they accepted lease only with no proof of payment.
thanks I look at that visa for going to Thailand and I may consider it for next year because I want to go for more than 4 months but I find that requirement difficult I know you can pay it and then try to recover it but I'm not that comfortable having to go through that process because you would have to do it a second time when you extended the Visa
has said is correct. The STV is available until September 30th. If you're prepared to jump through a couple of extra hoops, it could be a worthwhile visa for someone wanting to stay mid/long term. It's replaced the old "border bounce" scenario, as the 90-day bounces have been replaced with visits to immigration to extend. I'm sure it beats the shit out of sweating every 60 days wondering if the covid extension will be extended
