Is it true that the Non-OA visa allows for a one-year stay upon each entry before expiration?

Is this true, or is there some catch to it?

"The great thing about the O-A visa is that the multiple entry aspect allows a further one year stay on any entry, so if you exit and re-enter just before the visa expires you get another one year's stay."

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Non-OA visa does indeed permit a one-year stay with each entry, and it can be reapplied for by exiting and re-entering Thailand before the visa's expiration date. There are no catches mentioned by users, and it seems to be a straightforward process as long as you meet the necessary requirements, such as showing proof of health insurance. However, users noted that once you transition into the second year with the Non-OA visa, you must be mindful of the re-entry permit requirements. Additionally, some users discussed preferences for the spouse visa over the Non-OA visa due to specific advantages.

May I ask if Thailand accepts only the domestic insurance firms for the purpose of Non O-A Visa ? Is there an official site for list of these companies?

Im on my 2nd year do i just go to immigration before the end to get the first extension or can i change to Non O.

Once on the 2nd year you don’t have the multi-entry so don’t forget that if you want to leave and return and buy a re entry permit ! Used O-A lots before and was a great visa but the Spouse visa beats it in many ways😀👍

I was considering O-A but girlfriend wants marriage soon. May I ask, in your opinion why spouse visa better than Non O-A ? Thanks

do you also need to show a return ticket when you leave the country in the 2nd year, besides buying a re-entry permit?

Lots of things lost in translation and unclear rules...

no, they wouldn’t care! That’s why you need to know things cause they won’t tell you at the airport. Many have left and when returning found they needed a re entry permit to keep their visa…besides the other requirements

No catch, it's true.

No catch. I'm on my second year. Same visa.

No catch, simular to if you enter with a tourist visa on the last day it's valid for, you still get 60 days. The Non-OA gives you 12 months everytime you enter on it, so if you enter on the last day it's valid for you get another year, so roughly 2 years without the need for an incountry extension.

Note however, everytime you enter the country you need to show 1 years worth of insurance otherwise you'll only be stamped in for the length you jabr valid OA insurance.

Thanks for the detailed reply, does that mean that at the airport you will need to show the extended insurance? Also, with OA visa, would you be required to buy a return air ticket to thailand upon leaving to your home country for vacation?
Garrett ***********
@Kent ****
Yes, they ask for insurance at the airport. If you only have insurance for 3 months, you'd only be stamped in for 3 months (most of the time if they catch it.)

No, Non immigrant visas don't require and exit ticket.

thanks garret, you have been most helpful, really appreciate it. I have just survived first 3 months of retirement in Thailand, slowly getting used to the traffic and immigration bureaucracy...

The great thing with OA is you can get two years and never visit an immigration office. I lived in Thailand for six years until I had my first experience of an immigration office!

don't you need to do 90day reporting?

@Kent ****
When you leave the country you're never asked for 90-day report.
