Originally opened up a Kbank account in 2013 while on an ED visa. Also opened up a Krungsri account in 2018 while on a METV. Now I'm on a DTV, but the banks don't know I'm on a DTV.
Has anyone had their Kbank or Krungsri accounts closed by the banks like the Bangkok Bank fiasco?
I have a new phone and want to install the Kbank & Krungsri banking apps, but this requires going into the banks to get them to do it. Kbank requires facial recognition to be done at the branch.
I'm a bit hesitant, in case they ask me to update my visa status and if I tell them I'm on a DTV, then they might close down my accounts. Is it risky to try and get them to install the Kbank and Krungsri app on my new phone?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around a user concerned about updating their Kbank and Krungsri accounts while currently on a DTV visa, fearing account closures similar to those experienced with other banks. Several commenters shared positive experiences, stating they successfully updated their accounts without being asked about their visa status, indicating a low risk for older accounts. While some advise honesty regarding visa changes, others suggest it's safer to update information calmly without volunteering the new visa status unless asked.
Sooner or later, they'll ask you to update or verify your personal data. All banks do it with all accounts. My husband recently received a notification asking him to verify his personal data, and he has a non-b visa (both Kasikorn and Krungthai banks). If you haven't been asked to do this yet, you'll get a lucky letter soon. Be ready.
I have Krungsri and TTB, which I opened two years ago, and I only had a stamp in my passport (no visa). The accounts are good and I visited the bank several times with my new passport after two years, where I again only have a stamp 😊 i use bank for QR payment everyday
If you are not going to abide by the law they will find out any way and close your account i would pull money out of the accounts and update your info with bank see what happens
I do abide by the law. Let me know what 'law' you're talking about and provide the link to the law that I'm breaking by keeping a bank account that was legally opened up prior
Pull your money out before you do and if everything is fine when you update then put it back in if they close or freeze account at least you have your money in hand and you can keep it locked away somewhere in your room - like I do cause I can not get a bank account
give it a shot if they see the DTV there’s a good chance they’ll give you two weeks to close it if you research it’ll say you cannot have a bank account on a tourist visa
Anonymous participant no what im saying is they will in time come to you for update of information including visa - update your info tell them how long you had it maybe you will be ok - before they lock your account and you lose your money in it and cant take it out
I recently went into Kbank (the original branch where I opened an account around the same time as you on a tourist visa). I hadn't used the account for years and had even lost the bank book. I had 4,000 Bhat in the account that I wanted back in cash if I couldn't keep the account.
Anyway I explained I would like to keep the account and start using it again if possible. The lady proceeded to change my account over to an account where they took all my new details and facial recognition etc. They gave me a new bank card (a boring plain one. Not like my original Angry birds one from years ago lol) and a brand new bank book. * My old bank book would have been expired even if I still had it. They also setup the banking app on my phone for me.
They DIDN'T even ask what visa I was on, they just fixed the account for me.
So long story short, Kbank let me keep my account as it was an old account and I can now use it freely including QR code scan etc
Don't be scared to go in and update. Just don't mention the visa you are on unless they ask. My Kbank branch is based in Pattaya if that also helps
