On the COE application, it aske for the passport number of someone you know already in Thailand.

Is that necessary? I can’t complete the application without putting something down.

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
Many users are confused about the requirement of providing a passport number of someone already in Thailand on the Certificate of Entry (COE) application. It appears that while a Thai contact is necessary, providing their passport number is not mandatory. Some applicants resorted to using their own information when they lacked contact details. Ultimately, it seems that the passport number of a Thai contact is not essential for certain visa types, including the tourist visa.

I think that was only an option, rather than mandatory? My visa has just been approved, I am waiting for the embassy to return my passport, and I did not give a passport number for my girlfriend. It is a tourist visa, I am assuming, so why would you have the passport number for a Thai, and even if you knew a Thai, they may not necessarily have a passport in any case.

I don’t know anyone in Thailand but I couldn’t complete the application unless I put something down. So I just put down my own info again.

Was that a bad idea you think?

The Thai contact was required but giving the passport or ID for them was not

Pretty confused why you even need a Thais contact info for a tourist visa anyway
