Is it necessary to prove accommodation for my entire stay in Thailand if I only plan to book my first few nights?

Hi. Just a quick question. Hoping to come in January for 16 days. Gonna book a hotel in Bangkok for a couple of nights on arrival and decide there where I’m going to head to after. Is it a problem now if you can’t prove where you are staying for the duration of time there. In the past ive just booked and travelled wherever ive fancied at the time. Was hoping to again. Appreciate any advise and thank you in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When traveling to Thailand, it is common for travelers to book their first few nights' accommodation and then decide on their plans thereafter. While this practice generally works without issues, some immigration officers may require proof of accommodation for the entire stay. It is advisable to have a flexible plan or backup booking just in case. Booking your first few nights is usually sufficient, and hotels often handle the required TM30 notification to immigration.

Just book for the first day or two. The hotel will lodge a TM30.

Booking a hotel for the first few nights and deciding your next moves on the spot usually works fine, but keep in mind some immigration officers might ask for proof of accommodation for your entire stay. It’s always good to have a flexible plan or backup bookings just in case. For more tips on smooth travel and visa matters, Landscape is a great resource to check out.

just write your first destination that’s it, landmark hotel 👍

I take it you have an onward flight confirmed if you are only staying 16 days, you will fall into the usual tourist category

even if Immigration asks you where you stay (very unlikely) you can always tell them that you head out to the Sukhumvit or the Banglampoo area and do a walk-in booking with any free hotels in this area. You don't need a pre-booked accommodation (only if you are a repeated visa-exempt offender and show up in shabby clothes, they might start to ask you)

Normally just go once a year for about 12 days. Bit longer this time as last year felt like I was on the countdown a few days into being there

If you are moving between hotels in different locations then it is fine because it's the hotel that notifies immigration of your whereabouts. If your travel and plan to stay with a friend for a week you are supposed to go to immigration and notify them of where you are staying. The rules might have changed but it's what I did to keep square with the law because I wanted to retire here.

The only thing I would say about Phuket in 2019 though had a lot of Arabs and Russians but as I said. 2019 pre Covid so might need extra advice on that about what it's like now.

Yeah I’ve heard a lot about Phuket being over populated nowadays. What I can remember about there is it was very good for trips. I’ve never been to Chang Mai so that could be a possible.

My rough aim is to do 2 out of 3 areas between Pattaya and either Samui or Phuket. Probably 6 days in each. I’ve done all 3 before over the years but Phuket and samui were 30 years ago. Pattaya I have freinds who go for a couple of months so will be going there. Just can’t make up my mind about the other 2

If you will not have todeal with Thai Immigration, just continue as you do. Nothing you have to worry about.

Contact the Furama Silom by phone. Make a reservation for the full time and give them your email address and have them email it to you. Show this to the official and then when you get to furama you can make any changes you would like. You don't have to pay anything

No problem. Even if they ask, which is very unlikely, a few nights is plenty to satisfy them.
