Hi everyone

Just a quick question: I will be arriving in September. I'm staying about 20 days. I haven't been to Thailand since 2012. At immigration is it now the case that you have to say exactly where you are staying? I used to write on the form Bangkok or Ubon and was never questioned about it or asked for more details.

Please advise

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
Upon arriving in Thailand, you no longer need to fill out the TM6 arrival card; just present your passport and boarding pass. Immigration may ask for proof of funds, proof of onward travel, and proof of lodging, but these checks are rare. It's advisable to have a hotel booking confirmation ready, as airlines may require proof of exit if you're traveling without a visa.

There is no more form. That was the TM6 arrival card and it has been discontinued for the foreseeable future. Now you just hand your passport and your boarding pass to the immigration officer and get your stamp.

They can ask you for 3 things but they will only ask if you if they want to deny you entry. Since you haven't been to Thailand in over 10 years, there's not really any chance of that for you.

Those 3 items are as follows:

1) Proof of funds (20,000 baht or equivalent in another major currency IN CASH ONLY)

2) Proof of onward travel (proof of a ticket out of Thailand within 30 days)

3) Proof of lodging (Your first hotel booking or confirmation where you will be staying when you arrive)

As mentioned, immigration rarely asks for any of these. But note that since you are traveling without a visa, your airline may require you to show them proof of your ticket out of Thailand within 30 days before they will let you board your flight. You would need to check with them directly on what their policy is for Thailand.

Top and most comprehensive info! Can confirm your airline might ask for sight of your return/onward ticket (within 30 days) or ‘some sort of visa’. Without those they can deny boarding. Checking-in online or at airport totems doesn’t avoid this, passengers do get asked at the departure gate.

it's some sort of long-term Visa as a Tourist Visa requires the above by law

Airline check-in staff aren’t all that knowledgeable. For example, I was asked if I had a ‘visa?’. I answered ‘yes’ and was asked to show it. I found my passport page with the latest Retirement Extension stamp. That satisfied them. However, they should also have ensured that I had a re-entry permit too (which I did). They were Thai Airways staff. To be fair, that’s expecting rather too much of them.

I had to find my re-entry permit and show it to an immigration officer as I was leaving once. He said I didn't have one after going through my passport like 4 times!

If they can't figure it out, I wouldn't expect airline staff to!

Last time I exited Suvarnabhumi International, the immigration officer (very pleasant and female) noticed my date of birth and wished me ‘Happy Birthday!’ She seemed delighted when I said; ‘Thanks!, you’re on the ball’.

why? What are you talking about

if he is worried immigration ask and he can't provide an answer.

This way he has a hotel booking to show them but he can cancel it , as he doesn't really want it.

But immigration will be happy with the booking document.

Flying in now the Tm6 is no longer issued so nothing to complete. They ask for passport and boarding pass only.
