TLDR : Answer Summary
The ease of obtaining a 180-day extension on a soft power visa in Thailand varies based on personal experiences. Some users report needing a bank balance of at least 500,000 THB for 30 days prior to application; without this, extensions could be rejected. Many recommend considering a border run instead of applying for an extension within Thailand, as this approach is reported to be less stressful and more straightforward.

Don't get the DTV extension inside Thailand...do a BORDER BOUNCE.

Some people have but it seems to be more difficult than getting the actual visa. Most advice is to leave the country as it’s far easier and no stress

For the extension you need to show you still qualify, so money in the bank, signed up for an activity, etc. Basically similar to the original application. A border bounce is much easier

The only soft power extension rejection I remember was due to a financial issue ie bank balance was below 500k. The requirment seems to be 500k in bank for 30 days before date of extension application.

apart of money, i assume they can ask why do you want to stay and extend if the initial muai thai course ended already … do i have to book a 6 month long course every extension ?

Andi already answered. You basically have to show everything to qualify again plus some residential requirements.

if you extend at immigration you have to show continued activity so a 6 month course would satisfy that requirement. Much easier to just leave for a short trip nearby I think.

Easy if you use a border run service - VIP Visa-Thai Driving License - 3900 for the van from pattaya and 2000 at the border. Otherwise everyone has different experiences so far. I'll take the easy way.

driver is good normally onky 5 or 6 people in 10 passenger van. Cambodia has stamp and handwritten "DTV". Totally legit, I did border bounces for the last 10 months through them and never any issue. Leave 5 am return around 2pm but stop for lunch/ coffee on way back.

yes it's all done for you and paid up before you go to Cambodia. The 3900 includes the Cambodia visa, bus, lunch, etc.
