Anyone has experience of extend DTV visa over 180 days within Thailand ? Is it hard to get approval?
Answer summary
Extending a DTV visa over 180 days within Thailand appears to be quite challenging, with many expats expressing negative experiences. Several comments suggest that most immigration offices are reluctant to approve extensions, making it nearly impossible for many applicants. An alternative proposed by multiple users is to leave Thailand and re-enter to receive a new 180-day stamp, as the process for extension is reportedly similar to applying for a new visa. There is variability depending on the immigration office's location, with some areas like Chiang Mai being particularly difficult for extensions.

Extremely difficult to get it. Do yourself a BIG FAVOR 😜

Leave Thailand and reenter to get the new 180 day stamp.

It can be as hard, and sometimes harder than applying for the visa originally. Some offices refuse or make it almost impossible to do. You are best to leave the country and return for another 180-day stamp. Avoid Phuket when returning.

Totally depends on where you live in Thailand. It’s very difficult in Chiang Mai.

It seems most immigration offices aren't really keen to renew DTVs. There are some exceptions of successful renewals but they can be counted on two hands.

good luck mate. its like applying for the visa all over again and you still may not get it. much easier to hop across a border for a few days and back.

based on more than 1 report it seems straightforward in Bangkok. You just need to still qualify, which is quite fair.

there has been reports in here of success in Bangkok. Ive seen two reports that I remember. Expect to have to provide same documentation as when applying the DTV itself.

Some locations have been reported to be very difficult. Each immigration office can be wildly different

I haven’t personally done it as I travel a bit anyway.

all recent reports of DTV extensions inside Thailand have only requested and required showing 30 days of 500K minimum balance

In fact you should have the 500k at anytime you are in Thailand on DTV, but when you have to proof at Immigration Officc for extension they will check for some period before.

Ask your Immigration Office what is their procedure.

no idea. Considering some embassies expect a stable balance of 3 months before applying DTV. So I wouldn’t be surprised even 3 months of holding that might be required for extending. And I don’t find that unreasonable.

As is usual for most stuff in Thailand. Each immigration office has their own procedures and rules. Just like the different embassies 🤷🏻‍♂️

for the 500,000 it says that you needed prior 30 days of your application for re-entry
