Nobody knows, probably until a few weeks / days before they stop for applications.

That’s are the typical way Thai Immigration works.

The more it's abused, the more they will change the requirements.

From your the way your post is worded it would suggest you have a Thai missus and are looking to get the visa to live here, which is not what's it's for.

That's your opinion. There is no requirement to spend a single night outside Thailand during the 5 year period of validity. You need to tell the expats who previously held Non-O retirement or marriage visas/extensions. Simple arithmetic; if they required multi-entries total cost per year was approx. 6,000 baht. DTV 2,000 baht. No annual applications necessary.

Honest keep taking the pss, see how you get on, idiots like you will srew it up for everyone. I'd bet your passport is littered with border bounces

Retirement or marriage dont have to leave, the extension is for 12 months.

Retirees who changed to DTV were those who took regular breaks. We take short breaks every other month. Usually within Thailand but occasionally crossing borders. However, there are retirees who can't (or don't want) to venture anywhere. DTV wouldn't be suitable for them.

Better wait. Changes have many directions. If it's 6 months, sure. But longer, gamble that new visas will come along.

Who knows. They may be talking about another scheme in 1,2,3,X years. As long as they keep the privilege scheme then that works as a safety net for the long term stay.

Treat “will DTV still exist next year” as a policy risk, not a calendar optimization. If Thailand already fits your plan, applying earlier usually beats saving a few unused months on a visa that might tighten. The expensive mistake isn’t overlapping years — it’s waiting for perfect timing and then scrambling under new rules. Decide from your move date and document readiness, not from hoping the product stays identical.

If you got it today and it kept going forever, how mad at yourself would you be?

If you didn’t get it but they cancelled it and you could have gotten it, how mad at yourself would you be?

Decide which one makes you less mad and that’s your answer.

My best guess is income threshold across the board, not soft power or workcation but a number that tells them you're financially safe.

Just a guess, nobody really knows, but Thailand is hurting financially but is known to shoot itself in the foot. They are missing around 10 million people from 2019 tourism. Who knows
