Hi everyone, my name is Mirko. I'm a Content Creator and I make content about Thailand. I'd like to know if the DTV Visa is also available for content creators like me. I'm not a freelancer, but I've been creating content for the past 10 months to promote Thai tourism to the Italian audience.

What are the requirements to obtain it? Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether content creators, like Mirko, can obtain the DTV Visa in Thailand. Various comments suggest that individuals promoting Thailand's tourism may qualify under the DTV, specifically if their income is from outside Thailand. While some assert that content creation can be considered work and may not be suited for a DTV, others clarify that if monetization occurs outside Thailand, it could fall under the DTV category. Participants recommend providing a clear portfolio of work and suggest contacting immigration offices for accurate visa guidance.

Oh god, here we go again — people acting like immigration officers in the comments.

Let’s get a few things straight.

There are thousands of content creators promoting Thailand through videos, blogs, and photos. Most are on visa exemption, visa on arrival, or the DTV visa.

If your YouTube channel or online business is monetized outside Thailand and your income is generated outside Thailand — which is the case for most creators — then you’re likely operating within the scope of the DTV visa.

The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), especially under the “Workcation” category, is specifically designed for remote workers and freelancers employed by or earning from foreign entities. If you’re making content as part of your remote or freelance work, you may fall under this definition.

In my case, I submitted a complete portfolio — clearly stating that I create travel content globally, including Thailand. I provided my YouTube channel name and URL. If that was an issue, my visa wouldn’t have been approved in just 5 days.

Do I generate money in Thailand or take money for promoting business based in Thailand. No.

The day I do, I will convert my DTV to business class visa.

Yes, immigration rules may vary slightly depending on the consulate, embassy, or local immigration office. But instead of blindly following random opinions from strangers online — many of whom have never worked as a digital nomad or verified the information from a IO. — just do the smart thing: contact the Thai Labor Department or immigration office directly for proper clarification.

While it is the MoFA that issues the DTV, you suggest one to contact Labor Dept or Immigration?
Suhaan *********
Anonymous participant 987 Labor department handles the work permits and can provide more clarity.

Look if you go to MoFA, they will either check with LD or redirect you to them. So better check with the people who oversees what's permitted and what's not.

Buona fortuna! 🤙

Non Thai related content will be fine for the DTV

Just book a Muay Thai course.

Everyone's doing a Muay Thai course, but how do they support themselves financially? 🤔

@Mirko ******
They use savings and some also work online.

No, creating content in Thailand is considered work. You can't do that legally on a DTV visa.

Anonymous participant 463 he can if the company is taxing in a another country

@Kurt ************
not if the content is made in Thailand. It still would be illegal

Do you make money trhu those videos? If you do, it can be seen as your freelance job, and it might qualify for the visa.

@Andrew *******
Rules about what is work and what is not work can be difficult in Thailand. Publishing content on a foreign website clearly will be seen as remote work, but shooting the video can be seen as local work which in fact is prohibited for DTV.

That does not necessary mean every embassy will see it this way.

The discussion about remote work also keeps going on for a long time, far before DTV.

Some see it as working in Thailand and not allowed unless your visa tells it is allowed, others see it as not working in Thailand, meaning you can do it with or without any visa.

Yes, i make money with some collaboration an affiliate link

@Elías *******
no, on DTV visa people are not allowed to work in Thailand. This would be considered as "stealing" jobs of Thais.

Anonymous participant 463 There are people doing it on a DTV but it is a very grey area. Some are not just publishing content but offering services in Thailand like booking trips and accom - that is definitely a No-no

So would it be possible to apply just by proving that I publish video content and have an active community? Do you know anyone who got it this way?
Greg ********
@Mirko ******
I really do not know.

@Mirko ******
one of the most famous content creators from overseas is in Bangkok. And there are plenty more. One example here.

There are dozens cresting content in Thailand on tourist visas, visa exempt and retirement visas. I have never ever seen any reports of anyone getting into trouble for it. The nearest is when people have done actual client facing work like acting as tour guides or drivers. They are the ones who get into trouble.
