Is a medical certificate sufficient for visa support in Thailand, or should I seek another hospital for the letter?

I went to an appt with an Endocrinologist in BKK to refill my meds, the Dr recommended testing every 3 months. I asked the hospital if they can write a letter for visa support and this was their reply:

"Greetings from Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital.

Regrettably, we do not have service to provide letter for visa application.

We could only provide you medical certificate and you may contact Embassy for more information and further assistance."

Is this normal? Is the medical certificate enough? Should I try another hospital?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user attended an appointment with an endocrinologist in Bangkok and requested a letter for visa support, but the hospital only offered a medical certificate. Previous commenters shared mixed experiences, with some stating that similar requests were denied and others suggesting that only a treatment plan would suffice for visa purposes. The conversation reveals a lack of clarity regarding the requirements for visa support letters from medical facilities in Thailand.

Confirmation of medical appointment

I was rejected when I tried to apply for medical with samitivej because they wouldn't write me a support letter describing my medical issue and treatment and give me their business registration. I was seeing an ongoing specialist every month or two.

Anonymous participant 340 thats crazy honestly, but I'm glad to know it might be the hospital not the type of treatment

A letter of support is in regards to the 500k needed in the bank.

The support would be proof of funds and "a promise to pay" for you if you cannot.

From family, work, friend etc.

okay thanks, I knew they had to provide something just wasn't clear what

Ask for something simple.

Treatment plan

Register as a patient and they say that

Set appointments at 4-5 month intervals ahead and get them to confirm by email

Do you really need a letter of support? I suppose it depends on the embassy, but I just asked for a letter describing my medical issue and a treatment plan of at least several months. And i got approved.

@Shandy *******
May I ask at which embassy you got approved?

Taiwan, sorry for the late reply. This was before the evisa system was implemented. But my work situation might have been a factor in the approval too, so I wouldn't take my experience as a guarantee.

actually I wasn't sure what I needed. This helps, thank you

You'll probably need a proper treatment that is planned for months. It seems they don't consider testing and pills as part of it.

Anonymous participant 156 unfortunately, medical certificate isn’t enough. You need a list of doctor appointments and the purpose of each one. It isn’t an easy process. I am supposed to see 3-6 different doctors every month at Bumrungrad and I couldn’t get correct paperwork to go that route.

you weren't approved? Was the issue at the hospital end or did the visa get rejected?

Anonymous participant 156 this treatment is planned indefinitely as they are for chronic diseases... so sorry, but I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around the idea that regular testing to ensure accurate dosing for medicine that treats 2 different chronic diseases I have as not being proper treatment.... in your opinion what would be considered proper medical treatment?

Anonieme deelnemer Keep in mind that it is soft power, so it should give Thailand a higher ranking. So high profile treatments would make a better chance than simple routine treatments.

Anonymous participant Surgery, dentistry, etc. It may also simply be that Samitivej doesn't issue letters for it at all. It's probably a matter of money, and you'll likely be helped with an expensive treatment.
