TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV (Digital Tourist Visa) is not considered a long-term visa and does not qualify for obtaining a Thai residency ID. Several comments confirm that the DTV is a tourist visa. To obtain a residency ID in Thailand, individuals need a different visa type, such as a NON-O visa.

Ok if I were to meet a lovely lady during the 5 years , would it make it easier to get a marriage visa eventually, especially if I was living with her for a couple of years previous?

of course, Non-o I would choose a Non-o over DTV, ED or even non-b any time of the day. But beware you'll be very much tied to the gal (no pun intended)

Are you asking if just having relationship history is enough to get Thai ID? if so, no it is not, you must have a non o visa, via work, marriage etc. .
