TLDR : Answer Summary
Holders of a DTV (Digital Tourist Visa) can obtain a Thai driving license, but the validity period may vary depending on the local regulations and the office they visit. Most locations issue a 2-year license, while some may allow a 5-year renewal for existing license holders. Requirements typically include a certificate of residence, medical check, copies of passport and visa documents, and applicable fees. Individual experiences vary by location, with reports of different rules applied in places like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Samui.
Ok. Not sure of policy in Samui but in Phuket it’s 500 baht if you want it same day. Free if you wait a week.

BKK Bangchak branch will only give 2 year license if not on long term visa like the 1 year entry type. I got mine on an METV recently but yeah I was hoping for 5 years since it was a renewal but nope.
