TLDR : Answer Summary
Holders of a DTV (Digital Tourist Visa) can obtain a Thai driving license, but the validity period may vary depending on the local regulations and the office they visit. Most locations issue a 2-year license, while some may allow a 5-year renewal for existing license holders. Requirements typically include a certificate of residence, medical check, copies of passport and visa documents, and applicable fees. Individual experiences vary by location, with reports of different rules applied in places like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Samui.

Depends where you are, Samui is possible and no appointment needed.

Medical, TM30, copies of all passport stamps and main page, copies on driving licence (front and back on same page, copy of IDP.

If you want bike and car and are eligible for both then 2 copies of everything.

Done in 90 minutes.

Ok. Not sure of policy in Samui but in Phuket it’s 500 baht if you want it same day. Free if you wait a week.

BKK Bangchak branch will only give 2 year license if not on long term visa like the 1 year entry type. I got mine on an METV recently but yeah I was hoping for 5 years since it was a renewal but nope.

@Saul ******

Yes but the question is, will it be a 2 year license or for existing license holders, a 5 year one? This depends on what office you use.

Currently sitting at DLT now waiting for my photo to be taken to get license.

It’s a painful process as is everything Thai government.

Have double photocopies of everything is my suggestion.
