TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual currently holds a 12-month Non O visa based on marriage and is inquiring about how early they can apply for a Retirement visa before turning 50. Responses suggest that one cannot apply for the Retirement visa until they are exactly 50 years old. It is recommended to renew the current visa based on marriage and transition to the Retirement visa next year.

And why would you want a retirement visa when the marriage visa is much better?

@Er**
, he is on yearly extensions of stay based on marriage already ;)

Well you can use your salary from another country for your 40k/month marriage visa as well. It doesnt have to come from within Thailand.

Thanks - i see that. But i work in loacl Asia countries to Thailand, i dont want to work here, happy enough to live here

Well for marriage it is only 400k and not 800k or a salary at 40k/month instead of 65k/month. And with the marriage visa you are allowed to work if you get a work permit. Working is not allowed on a retirement visa.

whats the difference? A retirment visa is approved instantly each year and no one month wait. I meet the requirements for both - just think if i can avoid the 1 month wait, it would help me alot. But if i can leave during that time, it is a big help. Less paper work with a retirment visa

what makes the marriage extension better than a retirement one?

They both let you be here a year.

Thanks, i still work outside of Thailand and leave and re enter every month a couple of times, i was hoping to avoid the 1 month wait of consideration, it means i cant leave Thailand while i wait for them to approve the 1 year visa, next year i can get the retirment visa and it will make life alot eaiser

Yes correct, sorry for my lisunderstanding. I was hoping to get the retirment visa as i said as it would simply be approved instantly. But looks like i will wait another year. Thanks for your help

@Mic****
, then you don't have ANY Non-O visa :/

You're on a yearly extension of stay gotten from the immigration office inside the country for 1900baht and then you buy a re-entry permit for 3800baht that lets you come in and out all you want for the year.

Thanks Tod, i get the 1 year based on Family now and have done so for the last 4 years, i get aso the multi re entry permit and travel in and out every 2 weeks, i was hoping to get the retirment visa as its less paper work and much quicker to get. If i can leave during the 1 month consideration period, that will help.

@Mic****
, if you're gonna be traveling as much as you say, the year-long multi-entry Non-O you get from a thai consulate is definitely the way to go. It's unlimited entry for a year and you get stamped in for 90 days every time you enter.
Tod *********
actually you CAN leave the country during the 30 day under consideration period, you just need a re-entry permit, AND if you're in a province where the immigration officer come to your house you'd need to make arrangements to coordinate their visit to when you're home.

Apply now for 1 year Extension of Stay based on marriage and next year based on retirement.

Everything I read says “Applicant must be 50 years of age or over.”

unfortunately inside thailand you can't apply for the yearly extension of stay even a single day before you're 50 :/

I would say when the visa you're on expires, you could just get a 90 day single entry Non-O from a thai consulate then apply for the 60 day visit family extension and that would take you to your 50th b/d so you could apply for the extension based on being over 50 (retirement).
