Good evening,

If one are 50 years old and intends to apply for a 1 year extension on a non immigrant type o spouse visa and gets a income letter from ones embassy which exceeds the 65k/month, would it then be alright to apply for the retirees extension even though one are not retired? Is this simply an extension for those who are at least 50 years and holds a non immigrant visa, and has nothing to do with retirement?

Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual, aged 50, seeks clarification on whether they can apply for a one-year extension on a Non-Immigrant O spouse visa using an income letter from their embassy, despite not being retired. One comment emphasizes that the extension applies to those over 50 and is not explicitly tied to retirement status, but rather merely a status for living in Thailand long-term. Clarification suggests that being over 50 is the key requirement for this extension.

There is a LOT of misunderstanding about what's what.

The yearly extension is actually based on being over 50 and in thai it's called "in the instance of living out the end of your life" กรณีใช้ชีวิตในบั้นปลาย. In fact the thai word for retirement doesn't even appear in the clause for that extension. The ONLY place you see it is on the extension in ENGLISH when they put it in your passport.

It has nothing to do with you actually being retired or not and everything to do with you being over 50. ;)

Do you work in Thailand?

Then go ahead and apply for a retirement visa. But remember that you need to show more savings/income than a marriage visa.
