TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a one-year retirement visa in Thailand, the requirement for the 800,000 baht can vary depending on your application location. If you are applying from outside Thailand, the funds can be held in any bank. However, if you are applying for an extension of stay while already in Thailand, the funds must be in a Thai bank account in your name. Additionally, it's crucial to have the required funds in the bank for a specific duration as stipulated by immigration regulations.

By the way, IF you have Thai baht already, the max is 500,000฿. But that's only posible when you bought so much Baht in another country ofcourse, which doesn't seem smart to me.
Indeed, but that also has a max. I'm Dutch and then it is 10.000€. For USD I thought it's 20.000 dollar. Many times these are also the limits (without reporting before, because then there in no limit) from the country you come from. And yes, they almost never check but...........
you can only take 15,000 out of Thailand so check on how much you can travel with . You mite have it taken away from you and nothing you can do about… keep receipts for all money in and out of Thailand my friend or lose the lot
That depends what you intend to do regarding extensions for year 1, 2, 3 etc.

If you are in Thailand. you are applying for an extension of stay based on being over 50 and not a visa. And if so your money needs to be in a Thai bank.
No. the OP didn’t specify what visa they were applying for. So I didn’t quantify specifics but once you’re over here it needs to be in a Thai bank account.
