TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a one-year retirement visa in Thailand, the requirement is to have 800,000 baht. If applying from outside Thailand, this amount can be in any bank. However, if you are applying within Thailand, the funds must be in a Thai bank account held in your name. It's important to note that some users suggested consulting an agent for assistance with these requirements, especially regarding how long the funds must be maintained in the account and the necessary documentation.

You need a agent to help you get the retirement visa as they can assist you with the 800,000 in your bank accounts
Kevin ******
As a follow up question, can we later pull that 800k from the bank, convert to home country currency and take it back home?

@Kevin *****
By the way, IF you have Thai baht already, the max is 500,000฿. But that's only posible when you bought so much Baht in another country ofcourse, which doesn't seem smart to me.
Peter ****************
@Kevin *****
Indeed, but that also has a max. I'm Dutch and then it is 10.000€. For USD I thought it's 20.000 dollar. Many times these are also the limits (without reporting before, because then there in no limit) from the country you come from. And yes, they almost never check but...........

@Kevin *****
you can only take 15,000 out of Thailand so check on how much you can travel with . You mite have it taken away from you and nothing you can do about… keep receipts for all money in and out of Thailand my friend or lose the lot

@Leslie *****
Sorry, but is 50,000฿ max.

@Kevin *****
yes, you absolutely can. But if you need it for further visa extensions, it’s wise to leave it alone
Graham ******
@Kevin *****
That depends what you intend to do regarding extensions for year 1, 2, 3 etc.
Paul *******
If you are in Thailand. you are applying for an extension of stay based on being over 50 and not a visa. And if so your money needs to be in a Thai bank.
Leslie ******

@Paul ******
plus did you not know you can not extend an extention
Leslie ******

@Paul ******
it’s a retirement visa
Graham ******
@Paul ******
You can also get the initial Non-O based on retirement from inside Thailand
Paul *******
@Graham *****
Correct, Howeverm yhe poster asked about a 1 year visa.
Graham ******
@Paul ******
The OP said "one year" and "retirement visa", it can't be both, it's one or the other - a 12 month extension or a retirement Visa.
Stuart *********
If you are applying outside of Thailand it can be in any bank.

Applying inside of Thailand it needs to be in a Thai bank account in your name only.
Ronald *********
@Stuart ********
That's good to know, having the 800,000 in a UK bank if I applied in the UK for the visa.

And for my reporting to the IMO, can the money remain in the UK bank ?
Stuart *********
@Ronald ********
No. the OP didn’t specify what visa they were applying for. So I didn’t quantify specifics but once you’re over here it needs to be in a Thai bank account.
