TLDR : Answer Summary
The time it takes to receive a Certificate of Residence in Thailand on a Type O visa varies by the issuing office. Some offices provide the certificate on the same day for a fee of approximately 500 baht, while others may send it via post within 7 days or allow for pick-up later without a fee. To obtain the certificate, you typically need a recent TM30 filed. Additionally, opening a bank account may require more than just the certificate; some banks ask for a long-term lease or other documents. It's advisable to check the specific requirements of your preferred bank branch as they may differ.

Depending on your bank and branch. Every requirement will be different. I had a similar post a few weeks ago and were finding out that the same bank but a branch down the street in some cases had different requirements

Some banks don't really need residency cert(kbank/SCB) ..lease agreement and nonO is good enough ....bring your wife along try as many branch as possble....dont be afraid of the yellow book thing its not compulsory if they do ask ...skip to next branch

Thai banks may not only require a certificate of residence to open a bank account. Some require in addition a long term lease or yellow book. Research your preferred bank’s requirements.

suggest once you arrive you go straight to your preferred bank branch and ask for a list of their opening requirements.

Depends on the office you use. Some will give it same day for a fee of around 500 baht. Some will send it via post within 7 days and some will allow you to apply and pick it up later (7 days) for free.

You’ll need a recent TM30 filed for most offices to issue one.
