TLDR : Answer Summary
The time it takes to obtain a NON-O visa can vary significantly depending on where you are applying. Some users reported receiving their visa as quickly as one day at a Thai consulate, while others mentioned longer processing times, such as 3 to 6 months. The application process can be completed in person or through a consulate, with in-country applications typically taking around 14 days for consideration. Factors such as location and specific visa needs (like parental rights or marriage) can affect processing time.

Depends on where you are. I got one in Portland Oregon in 15 minutes. She does it all right there while you wait for it. I mean the 3 month one.

Carl Simpson mine was a volunteer visa (3 month) and they get processed (with the right paperwork) at the consulates in Penang, and the U.S. very quickly with a day or two. I'm not sure about in Thailand.

, okay I deleted my early comment. You can get a 90 day single entry Non-O based on marriage to a thai by submitting a pile of paperwork and showing you have 400K baht in thai bank account in your name only for 2 months, or by using the notary letter from your consulate stating you get 40K baht in income from abroad per month. Then once you got it you'd apply for the yearly extension after that.

You can also go to the thai consulates in either Savannakhet Lao or Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam and get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa without any proof of financials. With that visa you'd have to exit/re-enter thailand every 90 days for the duration of the visa (one year).

What is the reason you are applying for a Non-O visa? Is it marriage to a thai, raising children, retirement, volunteering, etc?

I would stop by the Phuket Immigration office and ask them for the hand out that lists the required documentation.

Have look around the net,plenty about it on there. :-)

her mother is fine doing it we are together, we just have to get married in the uk in a Jewish temple it's complicated.

We are working through the visa process for a fiancé visa and a spousal visa.

It's just been made really more complicated as Iost my job hear a week after our daughter was born.

We don't have a lot of money and I need all my savings to bring her back to the uk.

It's all been a nightmare with a new complication coming each day.

I appreciate the advice.

@Ro***
, I'd suggest you and your child's mother go to family court together and see what's what. If she's not willing to do it, the process becomes a LOT harder to get done, BUT that court is 100% all about the welfare of the child and they do not discriminate against foreigners seeking parental rights at all.
Robin **********
@Tod ********
Thank you,

Do I just go down to the Thai family court, any idear on how I get the process started?
Tod *********
@Ro***
, if you were not married to the mother when the child was born 100% of the parental rights went to the mother. It doesn't matter if you're on the birth certificate or if they hold a passport from your country too. You'd have to go thru family court to get recognized as having parental rights as the father.

@Tod ********
thank you if my child is registered in the uk and gets a uk passport would this not be enough or would I still need to go through the Thai courts.
Ted *******
@Tod ********
Yes I saw that, that was one of the stipulations i was pointing out that could possibly be overlooked
Tod *********
@T**
, you did notice that it said you can do that if the child is over 7 years old. Some Amphurs want them older, and that's because the child points out to the Amphur official who their father is.
Tod *********
@Ro***
, if you and your child's mother are in agreement it's a fairly straight forward but time consuming process at the family court. Depending on where you live I'd have you and the child's mother go to the family court and see how to get the process started.

Some family courts up-country MAKE you get an attorney but in bangkok you can do it without one with just the two of you.

@Tod ********
, it is listed as number 2 on the list above by Lloyd with certain stipulations. I am just noting things can be eased/pushed through if they are at the amphur with the relevant greasing
Robin **********
@Tod ********
any idear on how I do this, don't really have money to pay for lawyers presently.
Tod *********
@T**
, it is highly unlikely that
@Ro***
, will have any luck at the Amphur seeing as the decree to be recognized as the legal father in out of marriage births comes from family court not the Amphur.
Ted *******
Go to your local amphur first, with the mrs obviously. Assuming your name is on the BC you may be able to 'grease' the wheels. Some (especially rural) areas are very flexible ;)
Robin **********
Yes I had seen this on Google, would have to go for option 3.

If any one has any advice on this it would be appreciated.

The Thai law gives 3 possibilities to become the legal father of a child:

1. When the mother and father marry after the birth of the child, the father becomes automatically the legal father of the child.

2. The father asks to be registered as the legal father at the amphur. For this two criteria has to be met. The first one is that the mother has to agree. The second one is that the child also has to agree. However, the law doesn't give an age at which the child can give consent. Most amphurs will accept the consent of the child when it is at least 7 years old, but some amphurs seem willing to accept the consent of a child when a child is as young as 3 years old.Taking a respected local person with you might increase your chance on registration at an early age.

There might be amphurs that will accept a registration of the father as the legal father when the father and mother appear at the amphur together to register the birth of the child and ask at the same time that the father be registered as the legal father. It is not according to the law.

3. The father petitions the court to become the legal father of the child. This is the only option that can be used when the child is too young or the mother or child don't consent to the legitimization. If the mother does consent, it is a relatively simply process, a longer one if the mother doesn't agree.

Note that becoming the legal father is not the same as gaining parental rights, that is a different subject. You might become the legal father, without getting parental rights. Becoming the legal father means that you establish family ties with the child. That is for example important for a child's nationality and right to inheritance. With establishing parental rights you get authorithy over the child and can for example determine the place where a child stays.
Lloyd ********
OK, it is becoming the legal father you need, not parental rights, (sorry). If you married the mother, you would automatically become the legal father
Robin **********
I did seems complicated, can it be done quickly do I need a lawyer
Robin **********
Lloyd turner.

No I have not been advised this the child is just a month old how do I do this.
Lloyd ********
Robin Stallick As you are not married,have you been to family court to gain parental rights and be recognized as the father ? Just the name on the birth certificate will not get you a year extension.

What are you getting the Non-O visa for?

If you apply at a thai consulate you turn in your application and passport one day in the morning and you pick up your passport with the visa the next afternoon.

If you're applying for one inside the country you turn in the application and pay the money, it goes under consideration for 14 days and you got back to get the visa stamped in
