I was wondering when approving for an extension on an O-A visa,do they base the length of the extension on the stamp or on the dates on your insurance coverage? I already have insurance coverage which will cover the requirements but because of leaving and coming back in March, my permission to stay stamp dates are screwed up..( got 17 as opposed to 23/24 months out of original O-A) with my insurance dates...

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for an extension of an O-A visa, the extension length is commonly based on the duration of the insurance policy you hold, rather than the permission stamp dates. Immigration will grant an extension only for the time your health insurance policy is valid, which must be from one of the approved Thai insurance companies.
a new policy ? That is not what a PacCross agent told me...but possibly they changed their minds. They said they would extend your current policy to match the new one year extension date...prorate the premium.
..I was told that could give me a 15 month policy..but would involve writing a new policy..( and that still doesn't help..not enough time) but will talk more with them.

When applying for a yearly extension of stay at the immigration office based on having held an O-A visa, you need to be insured by one of the 13 thai approved insurance companies and you will get an extension for the duration of the policy only. (meaning if it's less than the year you would get on the extension you only get until it runs out) .
