I have plans to return to Thailand in April 2025. I want to apply for the DVT visa, but I’m seeing you have to arrive within 3 months of approval. So do I wait to apply? Go for it now since it will take time to get approved? I won’t be back in my home country ( USA) for another 8 weeks. Apply then? Not staying long in home country, only 3 weeks then I’m off again. I definitely need accurate advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can prepare your DVT visa application ahead of time by creating a profile on the eVisa system and gathering all necessary documents, allowing you to submit the application as soon as you return to your home country. Although some consulates may not accept applications for travel that is over three months away, the DVT visa itself is valid for five years, meaning you can enter Thailand anytime during that period and stay for 180 days. Processing times are typically quick, so applying within three weeks after returning home should suffice.

You could get everything ready (make a profile on the eVisa system, pick the consulate, visa, upload your documents) because you can store an application that isn't submitted.

Then as soon as you get IN your home country you could apply for the visa online. That would be the fastest you could do it

And that's not true you have to enter the country within 3 months of the visa being approved,. SOME consulates won't accept the application if you're going to thailand more than 3 months out,

BUT

there is no must enter within 3 months rule, the visa is good for 5 years <- meaning any time you enter during that time you get stamped in for 180 days

Typically 3 weeks would be plenty of time for approval. Stating what the home country you're applying from would be useful. Check the Thai embassy website in your country to find out their processing time.
