TLDR : Answer Summary
Users discussed companies that facilitate the process of obtaining a Special Tourist Visa (STV) for travel from the UK to Thailand, specifically mentioning Scotts Visas and Packngo as options. They also addressed questions about the duration of the STV, which is valid for 90 days upon entry with the possibility of extending it for additional 90 days but noted that it cannot be converted to another visa type once in Thailand. Additionally, alternative visa options like the 60-day tourist visa were discussed.

I concur. It's a come, spend your money and go. You won't be allowed to make any money in Thailand whatsoever.
keep in mind that the STV (Special Tourist Visa) is valid for 3 months from the date you get it <-meaning you have that long to ENTER thailand on it. When you enter the country you get stamped in for 90 days. You can apply for 2 additional extensions of 90 days each at the immigration office BUT you CANNOT change that visa to any other type inside the country.
It's sold as a tourist visa <- meaning you come here, "tour" for 9 months then leave and go back to where ever it is you come from
OR just get a regular single entry tourist visa that stamps you in for 60 days when you show up here. I mean it's gonna cost you easily 2000USD all in to get get back (insurance, flights, quarantine etc)
why not just spend the 40 bucks and get a tourist visa too ?
do I have to apply for a 60 day tourist visa at the embassy or it’s done online? and then I can extend that or change? my main aim is to be able to stay as long as possible
ALL requests to enter thailand go thru the thai consulate in the country you're in SO get to the website of one and read how you go about requesting entry to thailand.
You will mail your passport to them to get the visa sticker put in ONCE you're approved for entry.

How long does the STV last for? and can you change it to another type of visa once in Thailand?
it isn’t a ‘visa’ as such, it’s a visa exemption meaning you don’t need a visa for a short stay if you come from one of the 50-something countries on the list. It’s normally 30 days stay but recently an extra 15 days were added to account for the 15 days compulsory quarantine (paid for by you)
