Wise accepted my DTV Muay Thai visa along with my Thai driving license, even though it was issued more than 3 months ago, no need for any extra paperwork, accepted in like 5 minutes
Answer summary
The conversation centers around the acceptance of the DTV Muay Thai visa, highlighting that it was accepted quickly without the need for extra paperwork. Commenters discuss fund requirements, indicating that while there may be a need to prove funds when obtaining an extension inside Thailand, upon entry, there is no strict requirement to maintain the 500,000 THB balance. Further, it clarifies that the DTV allows for an initial stay of 180 days, after which an extension can be requested, though many prefer to leave and re-enter instead of applying for an extension.

No requirement to maintain the 500k balances at all. It’s a requirement for the application. Not for entry or re-entry. Spend or invest as you wish.

They'll certainly want to see 500k if you try to get an extension inside Thailand. It's unlikely they will ask to check on entry but they can do if they wish, but there's nothing requiring you to maintain the 500k so as long as you have the required 40k Baht or equivalent in cash (for a family, 20k for an individual) on you it should be OK

What exactly is considered an “extension”?

If I have to leave Thailand and re-enter every 180 days, is that considered an extension? Or does “extension” only refer to extending the visa after its 5-year validity period?

In other words, 180 days after receiving the visa, is there still a requirement to have the 500,000 THB in the bank account?

HelpfulCelery8394 when you enter Thailand with a DTV you get stamped in for 180 days, you can get one extension of a further 180 days at a local immigration office inside Thailand then you have to leave. Not many people get the extension inside Thailand as you have to show updated information including the 500k baht, almost everyone just leaves and returns

Although unlikely, you might well be asked to prove your funds upon first entry, or any entry after that. Nobody can tell you what an immigration officer will do.

But it sounds like you don't have the required funds for both of you and are looking for ways round it.

Also, I wouldn't rely on the DTV still being available in 5 years time.

James Mitchell , Thailand rarely shuts down a visa type; more likely they make up a new visa. That is why Thailand has more than 60 different visa types...

HelpfulCelery8394 then why mention the funds at all?
