Denied 1 year extension of stay based on marriage because I only had tax record for 2 out of 3 previous months given that I left my old job and was not employed in September. Did however have all tax records for the previous 14 months including this october (just not September), and a letter from my current employer. Immigration told us on the phone that it would be fine if we had the letter and the previous year's tax records. Got there and they told us no.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post describes a situation where a one-year extension of stay based on marriage was denied due to insufficient tax records for the previous three months, despite having prior tax records and a letter from the employer. The comments provide insights and advice on the requirement of proof of income or sufficient funds for the extension, including the need for a minimum of three months’ tax contributions or having at least 400,000 THB in the bank.

Mike,thanks for posting. I believe many learned a lot from your post and the discussion it generated.

As others mention,if you are a US citizen go to the US embassy for an affidavit stating that you have the financial means to live here.

Since when do you have to prove employment in order to obtain a 'Marriage Visa'……?

, he was getting an extension of stay based on marriage and using employment in thailand as the way to show the 40K baht a month income,. He did NOT need the consulate affidavit of income if he had the 3 months of tax documentation.

@Mike *****
My apologizes.

Extension of stay requires one to have an affidavit from embassy or proof of income inside thailand to get one. Totally different from a visa.

@William ******
Yes, but this was an extension of stay, not a visa. I had a visa already. I was getting an extension at immigration.

I haven't "worked" in Thailand since owning a footwear manufacturing firm last century and I haven't had a day job in years. The Thai consulate has always accepted a copy of a non Thai checking account and the first page of the most recent non Thai brokerage account statement as proof of financial means.

Ahh cancel that sad face. It will still be valid in 60 days then. Thanks

@Mike *****
Affidavit from Embassy is valid for 6 months.

ORIGINAL POSTER
Affidavit is only good for a few months though, right?

Mike Curl since you have it, bring it down as well. What I did each year was to bring down affidavit from embassy and tax records in TH. Whatever I have no harm. They are fickle. At least whatever they don’t need, they will pass it back to you. They keep what they need. More important.

Commonly known as a marriage visa.

Nice, be a bit clearer told by some one who is talking about a non existing "Marriage Visa". It is a Non Immigrant O visa or an Extension of Stay for both based on Marriage with a Thai citizen

ORIGINAL POSTER
Yes and I didnt want to use the affidavit because I wanted it to be legit related to my real job
David ************
Are you an American citizen
Richard ********
Certainly comes across that way. Perhaps be a bit clearer in future. 400k in the bank is required if you can't prove earnings.
Andre **********************
It’s extension of stay based on marriage. Either 400k or tax records for past 3 months if employed here.
Robert *******
You have to proof income or money on the bank for an Extension of Stay based on Marriage. I think that is what you meant with a "Marriage Visa"
Mike ******

Where in this post did I say I was trying to obtain a a marriage visa?
Robert *******
Ask for 60 days Extension to see the misses and if you have the 3 months tax papers just go back for the year Extension.
Andre **********************
And I don’t trust the people on the phone. They don’t even sit at the desk processing the applications. Those ladies sitting at the counters more important.

ORIGINAL POSTER
Yeah good advice. That is what we did. We will try again in Januay. Just wanted to post this so people are aware
Andre **********************
That’s the thing, they want to see min. 3 months tax contributions or THB 400k season for at least 2 months prior to application. Sucks.
Mike ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
That is a visa. I already had a visa
Peter **********
Not in suvanaket and you can get a multiple entry
Mike ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
And I knew that, but they told me just August and October would be fine if I could also show the 12 months prior
Peter **********
Go to suvanaket immigration don’t financials
Steve *******
That's for a visa not an extention of stay. Its's from the Thai consulate in Savanakhet not immigration.
