What happens if my bank balance for a Non-O visa dips below 400k for a few days?

I’ve been working on keeping 400k in my account for non-o 1 year and it accidentally dipped under 400k by like 70 baht for a few days before I noticed.. I immediately replaced the money but does that mean I’m screwed? I had it all lined up for my visa ending in 2 months.

How much grace can immigration centers afford us with these types of accidents?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster (OP) is concerned about their Non-O visa status after their bank account balance dipped below the required 400,000 baht by 70 baht for a few days. Although they replaced the money promptly, they are seeking clarification on immigration's grace period for such circumstances. Responses from the community indicate that there is typically no grace period for account dips; many users shared their experiences of having faced strict enforcement by immigration, where even slight dips led to denied extensions. It was suggested that the OP may still be eligible for a 60-day family extension and should consider visiting the immigration office for advice, especially since they have not yet utilized this possibility. It was also noted that the money should be consistently maintained above the threshold for specific periods depending on visa type.

I found out recently will not let you if even 1 baht, but if you did find out and topped the same day its ok

Why just have the absolute minimum??

Gee, deposit a few extra thousand baht to cover annual account fees or whatever may be deducted unexpectedly.....

Seriously 😳!!!

Folk's...We don't allow any discussion of Thai Visa Agents on the Thai Visa Advice forum... period 🩸 We are a Do IT Yourself forum.

That's why comments from one forum member have been removed.

The member has been advised of this by a PM. But still is a member, for now.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes this is a marriage visa, I’m on my initial 3 months and had lined up my money to be in my BBL account for 2 months prior to requesting the year extension.

My immigration is Chaengwattana. I have heard extremely strict from pretty much everyone but I have not used the family extension..

Do you folks recommend I visit immigration after the 2 month mark from initial deposit and then request extension based on that answer or should I just not waste my time waiting and request an extension immediately?

Okay as far as 400K baht for the banked money method based on marriage to a thai, the funds only need to be in the account for 2 months before you apply for the extension.

AND

As far as the 400K baht that has to be in the account ALL THE TIME for the banked money method based on retirement,

There is no leeway on either, and I've had people denied extensions because the balance fell below the threshold for a matter of hours (even though the daily balance still hit the requirement)

That was a fail on your part and you could very well find you painted yourself into a corner by not following the seasoning requirements.

DEFINITELY go apply for the extension as soon as your office allows (45 days before with some 30 days before with others) so that IF they deny the extension (which they are well within their rights to do) you have plenty of time to plan a trip out of the country to get a new Non-O visa and start the whole process over againg.

FYI ...the OP has now clarified that he is in the first 90 days of the Non O Visa as Married to Thai.

@James *******
good to know, then as people pointed out he either tries it and see if it "slides thru" OR he goes for the one 60 day visit thai family extension he can get to buy another two months for the seasoning

@Pava *******
of course not exactly 400k - all that you want
Tod *********
@Pava *******
that 400k is the minimum required
Wim ********
@Pava *******
yes, I keep it around 425,000, just to avoid that accidentically it drops below. I avoid using that account for daily payments
Pava ********
@Kim ********
I asked because it seems strange that anyone would let it dip below by a few baht when you could have a few thousand above 400k to be safe, thanks for reply👍🏻
Pava ********
@Tod ********
does it have to be exactly 400k for 2 months b4 or can it be 400k or above?
Guy ***********
I dipped below by 48 ฿ for less than a minute some years ago. A trip to Penang came next ! No sympathy for me.

haha! Oh man that’s not instilling confidence but ultimately my fault. Not going to complain about an excuse to take a short vacation

You didn't fulfill the conditions of the extension.

Unfortunately you will need to start over.

But it doesn't hurt to ask immigration. You never know.
Michael ********
You must be married to a Thai. As Craig said, if you haven't used a 60 day extension based on family, use that. Otherwise, if your office is not forgiving, you will have to leave Thailand and start over with a new NON O.
James ********
Suggest you visit your local Thai Immigration office and ask them. Take a printout of your monthly balances with you... and show what happened and what you did to restore the full 400,000 Thai baht balance needed.

Which Thai Immigration office do you use?

Are you on an extension as Married to Thai... or Father Thai child... or as retired..

I assume you are using retirement...as you need to keep a minimum 400,000 Thai baht bank account balance... during the midyear of your one year extension.

Good Luck 🍀

I am on my initial 3 months from marriage! They were pretty strict at Chaengwattana to start off the process so I can assume they will be the same on this.

I’ve heard very small chance for them to give grace but still a bit concerned.
James ********
@Dustyn *********
Sooooo, to clarify....you are now in your first 90 days of a Non O Visa as Married to Thai ???
Michael ********
@James *******
400k for 2 months before. Must be on a extension of stay - married.
James ********
@Michael *******
Correct ✅ for 2 FULL months as Married to Thai ... or the 400,000 may have fallen below the requirements for the retiree extension.. First 3 months 800,000, next 7 months 400,000 and final 2 months 800,000 to qualify for another one year extension of stay as retiree.
Graham ******
So this is for an Extension of Stay based on a Non-O (retirement)? If not and it is for an Extension of Stay based on a Non-O (marriage or Thai child) you just need to be at 400k 2 months before you apply.
Michael ********
@Graham *****
He said he was lining up 400k for 2 months before his extension of stay. So, he is on an extension of stay based on family. Now he won't be able to get it, unless he can do a 60 day extension.
Graham ******
@Michael *******
He also says it's ending in 2 months so, in your scenario, it wouldn't matter
Michael ********
@Graham *****
It would matter, as he would get the 60 day extension of stay (which does not require any money). This would give him added time to then keep his money above 400k for another 2 months, and then get his 1 year extension of stay inked in. ;)

@Michael *******
i’m on the initial 3 months for a marriage non-o.. Keeping the money in the bank for 2 months for my 1 year extension. I haven’t used a family extension yet.. I’m assuming that this is my next option
Michael ********
@Dustyn *********
Correct. Use the 60 day extension of stay for visiting family, Keep your money at 400k+ for 2 months, get the 1 year. Good luck.
Craig *******
It's not good news I had it a few years back no grace. You can get a visiting Thai family 60 days if you haven't already had 1. Other than that you will have to leave the country and restart
Sean *******
I have the same question, non-o on Thai kids, account dipped below due to house build
Sean *******
@Mikkel ******
excellent information thanks
Mikkel *******
@Sean ******
not same.. The extension of a non O based on having Thai kids (being the guardian of them) only requires the money to be present on the day of application. No requirement to have the money seasoned at all. On the other hand, a non O based on being over 50, requires, if using banked money, that the account never dips below 400K. It has to be a minimum of 800K from 2 months before, until 3 months after applying too.
James ********
@Mikkel ******
the OP has clarified that he is in the first 90 days of the Non O Visa as Married to Thai.
Mikkel *******
@James *******
in that case there's of course the seasoning requirement of having 400K in the bank at least 2 months before applying. If the OP has another Thai account and the total was never below the 400K in the seasoning period, it could be possible that immigration would consider that enough. I would surely talk to them as soon as possible to find out.
