TLDR : Answer Summary
To perform a border bounce from Thailand to Laos, one must stamp out of Thailand, purchase a visa on arrival for Laos, stamp in and out of Laos, and then re-enter Thailand by stamping back in. There is no mandatory duration for staying out of Thailand; many people simply stamp in and out quickly. An e-visa for Laos may be a convenient option to avoid long lines.

E-Visa for Laos is not a bad option if you want to skip the visa on arrival line.

I always spend some time in Laos. It's a fantastic laid back country, and they need our money more than the Thais do.

You go to the border, stamp out of thailand, BUY the visa on arrival to Lao, stamp in and out of Lao then come back to thailand and stamp back in.

You have to stamp in&out of another country (and for most people that means buying the Lao visa on arrival at the border)

There is no amount of time you have to be out of thailand, many people just stamp in and out of the other country and come right back to thailand.

@Andre *****
correct, a visa on arrival to THAILAND can't be used to get any visa inside the country and can't be extended 30 days like a visa exempt entry can
