If you're planning a border bounce, are you able to exit Thailand and return to the Kingdom same day? Or, are you required to stay out of Thailand for a certain period of time?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When planning a border bounce from Thailand, whether you can re-enter the same day depends on the country you visit. Some borders, particularly with Cambodia, may require an overnight stay, while others, like Laos and Myanmar, do not.

your mistake was choosing the wrong border to bounce out and back in at with cambodia. They'll make you wait 24 hours before you can stamp back in. They have NOT gone bonkers (as it's been a rule for a LONG time now) they are just enforcing the rule as it's written.

There are a couple of the cambodian borders that require overnight stay

That depends on which country you are entering. Some Cambodian border posts want you to stay 24 hours before you leave again. Laos and Myanmar don’t. In fact, some places in Myanmar only give you a day pass so you have to leave the same day.
