How Does the 30-Day Visa Extension Work in Thailand After My Current Visa Expires?

Hi.

Im getting mixed answers to this question from my local enquiries hope you can clear up my confusion please.

My current Thailand 30 day visa on arrival (exempt) will expire on 29th Jan. If i go to immigration office now (14/15th), will the new 30 day visa run on from existing visa/entry permit expiry or only 30 days from 14/15th?

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you visit the immigration office now, your extension of stay will be added to the end of your existing 30-day visa exempt entry. This means that if you apply for the extension before your current visa expires, you will receive an additional 30 days starting from the expiry date of your current visa (29th Jan), resulting in a new expiry date of 28th Feb.

The mixed answers is because you mix some names.

If you entered Thailand without buying a visa at a Thai Consulate you got a 30 day Visa Exempt Entry, this is not a 30 day visa on arrival.

If you visit the Immigration Office you can apply for a 30 day Extension of Stay that will be added on your current stay and is not a visa run to another country to visit a Thai Consulate to buy a visa.

Short: Visit Immigration, apply for Extension of Stay and you get a new stamp with new date 29th Jan plus 30 days is 28 Feb 2020

30 days from your current permission to stay date.

But check with your immigration office re how soon they will allow you to apply for the extension

Extension is added to the end of your existing permitted stay.
