How does the 180-day stay work with a DTV when leaving and re-entering Thailand?

I got my DTV but I'm not sure how it works when I exist Thailand during the 180 days.

First, do I need to do anything when leaving during the 180 days? Or is it the same normal process as in all other visas?

Second, when I come back during the 5 years visa, do I get another 180 days or do I continue from the last day counting that I had before leaving? So for example if I leave after 80 days and come back, do I get a new 180 days or just 100 days (to continue the count I had before leaving)?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV visa allows for a stay of 180 days for each entry into Thailand. When you leave the country, normal departure procedures apply, similar to other visa types. Upon re-entering, you are granted a new period of 180 days, regardless of how many days you spent in Thailand during your previous entry.

It's a multi entry visa, and for each entry you get 6 months of stay. Just like a multi entry visa for any country, however, the permission to stay depends on the country. For example, a 10-year multi entry US visa allows you to stay for 180 days for each entry. But in the US, you cannot go to Mexico after 6 months and turn back to get another 6 months. In Thailand, one can do so.

I like that idea if it's true. I want to actually avoid staying in Thailand a full 180 days or a year, because I hear you fall under their tax system.
