Hi there

Has anyone done an in country extension? It's my first extension & have been quoted a price from the same visa company that sorted all of the paper work for me.
Answer summary
The conversation discusses the process and costs of extending a visa within Thailand. Users share their experiences, indicating that the official fee for the extension is approximately 1,900 baht, plus additional costs for printing documents. It is emphasized that many people successfully complete extensions without the need for an agent, using a TM7 form and relevant documents such as proof of accommodation and finances. There are mixed opinions on whether it's more beneficial to extend in-country or leave the country, with some suggesting that extensions can be straightforward if done personally at local immigration offices.

A couple of things about this post that don't ring true. A DTV holder who claims he doesn't know about in-country DTV extensions and who also mentions his agent 'sorted all of the paper work for me'. Stirring two pots at once!

Which immigration office? What entry scheme did you use, soft power or digital nomad? Typically you're in for a world of hurt and it's much easier to spend a few thousand baht flying out and back in. You're going to have to leave the country anyway at the end of the extension.

Also, you can use the search bar to see details of successful DTV extensions in Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, etc.All of them were made without an agent, so it's really not hard.

stop trolling please, or do you want another ban?

Yes. I did. It costed me 1,900 bahts (the official fee) + printings. I went myself at the immigration. It took me 3-4 hours and I was out with a new 6-months stamp.

Alexis Lambert Yes. It has to be in the account for one month. I used a foreign bank account

Alexis Lambert you need to show 500,000 THB or equivalent in a bank account for 30 days before applying. Can be either Thai or foreign account. May also need a bank letter attesting that it's your account (this is a standard letter, some banks this is easy to download from their online banking). This is the most common requirement, immigration offices may vary on the exact format they want, stamps, or whether they accept things like Wise or other fintech. Won't accept brokerages or crypto.

Yes many do extension inside Thailand, cost is one thousand nine hundred baht at immigration, plus copies and photo. No need to leave country for first extension.

Visa companies often charge ten thousand to twenty thousand for help, if they did first DTV file it can be okay to use them again but you can do it yourself at local office with TM7, passport, DTV proof, bank proof and rental contract. Bring same papers as first application.

You could consider reading a book or two before your trip. I’d recommend Unlock Thailand by Isla Rey on Amazon, it includes all the info and insights you need. You should check it out. A very good companion 👌.

Not sure where you are seeing 'many do extension inside Thailand'. Verifiable success stories often conclude with; 'I'll border bounce in future'. The 'easy and straightforward' reports are fictional, written by a persistent troll attempting to set others up for a fail.

ALL your paperwork needs a full upgrade for a start. You cannot submit original documents.

What you mean with full upgrade?

An employment contract and letter that allows you to work abroad does not change I think.

Just printing out a proof the 500k is still in your account is also not too difficult.

What more has to be done.

I don't think they'll accept a letter dated more than 2 years ago.

At lest in the Thai Embassy in Korea, they "don't understand" Korean, for example. Only documents originally written or translated to either Thai or English are accepted, as per the Embassy rules. I know it's not the same you're mentioning, but just to give a background to my they won't understand comment.

You never know what they understand, but this post was not about airport but extension at immigration office.

There they have more time and means to check, but no idea what will happen.

When the letter mentions it is valid during the employment contract or valid during the 5 year visa period, I think it should not be a problem.

But since I don't expect to stay over 180 days a year in Thailand it is a non issue for me.

And now that I think it haha, even if I were to show my contract to an IO at the airport, they of course wouldn't understand Korean language 😉

Yes, so as I said, they won't have any issue with an old contract, but it wouldn't be the same for an old letter. When I applied, I didn't handle in my contract (as they wouldn't accept the local language), just a letter written in English by my company.

Some employers put this information in their employment contract, and a contract is not renewed because an embassy likes to see that.

Why should a separate letter of an employer staing exact same info as other employers put in their contract have a restricted validity while it is not mentioned in the letter.

The letter is just an addition to the contract.

StunningDeer1930 read again, I said letter. Contracts are different as they don't have expiration date nor are issued again every year or so.

I extended my DTV. My work contract is older than 2 years and it wasn't an issue. I also used it to get the DTV
