I’m planning on applying for a 60 day extension towards the end of July , giving me until end of September , how close to end of September can I give before applying for a 1 year extension of stay based on Marriage?

The reason is I need my 400k to be there for 2 months and I haven’t transferred the cash yet.

It’s a pity the U.K. embassy doesn’t give guarantees of 40k per month income anymore .

Is there any way round this and I’d apply for one year extension straight away ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks guidance on the timing for applying for a 1-year extension of stay based on marriage in Thailand, particularly after a planned 60-day extension, while ensuring their financial requirements are met.

It is three months between today and the end of September, but nt sure when you like or can apply for the 60 day Extension of Stay.

The other way to show the financial requirement is:

At least 12 months of a monthly foreign deposit of minimum 40.000 Thb into a Thai bank account on your name,

OR

at least 3 months tax payments, work permit and many other documents if you work inside Thailand.

so the dilemma is exchange £ to 400k thb in the next week or so at pretty much the worst exchange rate on record or roll the dice and see what they announce in the coming weeks with possible in country border bounce on my non imm O ‘multi’ or extension of the amnesty.

It’s a tough one

. What is the actual stamped in date in your passport? If you're on amnesty your visa has already expired and you may not be eligible to apply for an extension

28th May on my stamp and 18th Aug on my Visa

. So you're actually on amnesty already? Before you start transferring money you'd be best advised to visit your immigration office to see if you can still do it. I think you would have needed to apply before 28 May, but we live in different times, but talk to those who make the rules

I thought that would be the case so was going to wait till end of July apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on Thai family , then I’d be on an official extension then 30-45 days later apply for a years extension again based on Thai family + 400k in bank

, my experience is that a 60 day extension - one only, or two, I forget - is available on the spot right up to the date of expiry of permission to stay. But that an application for a one year extension is required before 14 days before expiry of permission to stay.

I'm unclear whether the 60 day extension would reset the process of applying for that type of Visa, though......... That could require a trip out of country, on pre-COVID rules.........

Both are called Extension of Stay, the 60 days based on visit your Thai family and the 1 year is based on marriage with a Thai citizen,

And you can apply at most Immigration Offices during the last 30 days of your legal stay

I'm very clear that Lopburi office require 14 days prior to the expiry of the validity of the permission to stay, to process a 1 year extension of stay through ChaengWattana............ But you can apply up to a month ahead of expiry of the permission to stay.

ChaengWattana possibly will do it closer to the expiry date?

I believe you're confusing getting an in country VISA from an immigration office with getting an extension from them.

All the immigration offices will accept application for extensions right up until the last day on your current entry stamp or extension.

The 14 days is when you are applying for an in country Non-Immigrant visa not an extension

ok thanks , I see what you mean now so I’d give myself 7 days before Stamp expiry and that gives me time if any documentation needs corrected.

Now I know when I have to complete the exchange of 400k , let’s hope I can get at least 40thb to the £ in a few weeks

The latest would be before the Admitted until or permitted up to ../../.. date stamped in your passport or on that date.

If you miss some documents, the next day is then called overstay and fines are in place.

I know they say you can apply 30 days before current stamp expiry but what would be the latest to leave it before applying for one year extension 7 days ?
