Any ideas on how you get to deposit 800k in to an account that every single bank I go to refuses to open?
Answer summary
The conversation revolves around the challenges faced by expats in Thailand when trying to open a bank account to deposit 800,000 THB, which is a requirement for certain visa types like the Non-O visa. Community members suggest engaging agents for assistance, particularly those experienced with visa and banking processes. They also emphasize the importance of having a valid Non-O visa, a residence certificate from immigration, and a Thai SIM card to meet bank requirements. Several users recount their experiences, noting that sometimes, local branches have different policies, and it may require visiting multiple banks before successfully opening an account.

take another path, hiring an agent. first call the agents in your area to see who will be able to open an account for you and then make sure that once you get your long-term visa you go back to the bank and update all your information with them.
Either apply outside of the country or if you want to apply in Thailand only possible with connections. I can do the visa including bank account in less than 1 week
This is one of the absurdity of the system. Like people with DTV, who incidentally have to pay tax if they stay here more than 180 days per year but cannot open a bank account either.
Unless you have a strong reason to be here (wife, kids, employment) give the thais exactly what they wamt (f.all) and take your money(and yourself) elsewhere that is less hostile
John Son the other reason is that Thai government now only wants "good quality" people. Which is about 100k US cashflow a year. Obvious there is some discussion around this concept...
With the recent fraud incidents and government cracking down on this the banks refuse to open account. Huge disconnect between Immigration and banks. I landed early this month and spent 3 weeks trying every bank. The solution? This week i will travel from Ubon to Pattaya to meet up with an Immigration "agent".
With a fist full of thousends I hope to get a bank account and get my 90 day O extended straight into Retirement Visa. It is sad but hey... Good luck, just go back to your Immigration office and ask whst you should do to comply with their requirements, when they start to whisper, youre good.
correct but no bank account, no extension. BTW upon arrival the 90 non immigrant O gets made "USED" and is replaced by a passport stamp that allows for 90 day stay. The retirement Visa is a non immigrant O-A or E as I understand.
you just need to go to your immigration office with a copy of the TM30 receipt from your landlord and get a residence certificate, then go to a phone shop and get a Thai SIM registered against your passport. With that go to a bank and request they open an account, you might need to try a couple of branches but it should be straightforward
Why don't you go see Immigration and ask them where to go? That's what I did and my bank account was open within 1 hour but I already had à Non-O visa (90 days) . I requested à letter from tthem to help me out. Cost 200 thb
If you arrive without a Non O visa, you will usually need an agent to help you open a Thai bank account and the application process itself. If you already hold a Non O visa, you can normally open one yourself, although you may have to try several bank branches.
Immigration can often also provide a letter confirming that you need a Thai bank account in order to apply for an extension of stay in addition to a residence certificate and Thai SIM card
Michael Villin wrong. Need a thai sim registered to your passport. The bank will use that number for bank appand face recognition. The days of buying sim in a local shop are gone (thank the scammers) everything goes thru your passport
this post is about banks, not immigration. You are required to have a Thai phone number registered under your name and passport number to open a bank account currently.
So you applied for a non-O visa from the Thai embassy, then traveled to Thailand and obtained a residence certificate from your immigration office? So what is the bank telling you that you are missing?
This is the proper process for obtaining both a long term stay in Thailand and the bank account you'll need for the annual extensions and this is how the system is designed to work.
all sorts of things, wrong visa, havent been here long enough, no wedding certificate, no proof of retirement , wrong day of the week, shoe size, bank policy, you name it
