I am going to Thailand in November . I want to stay as long as possible. I heard that they are changing visa to 90 days but I don't know how true it is. I have no problem going to loas as my house is 2 hours drive away. I have no idea what the terminology is for the different types of visa. Please can anyone help me out with how I can stay for 4 months plus. Thanks for your help in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on how to stay in Thailand for more than 4 months, expressing concerns about potential changes to visa rules, specifically regarding a rumored 90-day visa. Comments suggest various options including a 60-day visa with a possible 30-day extension, a multi-entry tourist visa, and a non-O visa if married to a Thai citizen. It's emphasized that budget considerations are important, and performing 'border runs' to neighboring countries can help maximize the stay.

if however you would want to stay LONGER than the mentioned 4 months, then the best visa for you is the "6-months multi entry tourist visa". It is valid for unlimited entries within the 6-month validity period. On each entry you get stamped in for 60 days. You could extend for 30 more days on Immigration for 1900.- THB once. You could but also exit Thailand, and receive another 60 days admitted stay stamp upon re-entering. If you do a last border bounce on the last day of the visa validity, you get stamped in for the last time for 60 days, bringing your theoretically possible stay in Thailand to EIGHT months

Fly to Thailand without any visa and enter Thailand “visa-exempt”. According to your profile, you are from the U.K., so you are entitled to enter Thailand visa-free.

You will receive a 60-days stay permit stamped in your passport.

***The only thing you have to watch out:

Your airline might ask you for a proof of onward travel out of Thailand within the first 60 days you will get stamped in, or they won’t allow you on the flight.

You can solve this minor problem by either buying a cheap Air Asia one-way ticket Hat Yai to Kuala Lumpur for 53.- USD, or buy one of those “fake” tickets called “onwardticket” which are a “flight reservation” valid for 48 hours.

Both are just for the show and you could throw them away after having arrived in Thailand.

Regarding the cheap one-way ticket to Kuala Lumpur or to Siem Reap Cambodia or Vientiane, you could actually USE it to make a “border run” out of Thailand and back, if you book it as a both ways ticket!

***You should NOT (!!) apply for a 30-days extension on top of these 60 days. That’s throwing 1900.- THB away, throwing money away - and it is NOT needed when you only want to spend 120 days in Thailand!

Watch out for BAD advice here from the many “barstool experts” !!😠😡😕

Just do a “border bounce” to a neighbour country, re-enter Thailand “visa-exempt” and receive another 60 days stay permit

(even if you did a 30-days extension, you would still have to do a border bounce, dig? So the 30 days extension saves ya nothing but costs you extra 50.oo Pound Sterling)

Multiple entry tourist visa valid for 6months and you get 60 days each arrival in that time which can be extended by 30 days.

Are you married to a Thai? If so you can get a non-o Thai spouse visa and stay as long as you like. Initial visa for 90 days then 12 month extension repeatable

@Benny **********
if you don't have money you won't get the visa. How are you planning to live if you have no money?

My pension is

Bath/month

@Benny **********
the choice is yours but if you want a visa you need to use a Thai bank unless your embassy will provide an income affidavit. If they will you don't need to put money in the bank

baht a month, that is not enough, so even when the embassy will provide income affidvit, there still is money in the bank account needed.

@Luit ****************
it's enough if he's married to a Thai

Considering a retirement visa could be a great way to secure your long-term stay!

Just to clarify, 60 day free exemption is not for everyone. They have increased the list of countries, but you still need to check to make sure your country is on the visa exemption list
Billy ******
60 day free exemption visa, depending on your nationality,then an added 30 days at immigration (1,900 Thb)
James *******
@Billy *****
That's great news. Is this applicable to citizens of USA ?
Billy ******
@James ******
yes, the airline or passport control, may ask for Proof Of Onward Travel within the 60 days, simply proof that you have made arrangements to leave, Jve never been asked, but my friends have.
Henrik *****
Don’t forget a onwardticket if making the extension.
Billy ******
@James ******
yes, the USA are on the list, simply turn up at the airport and get an exemption visa which will last for 60 days, before that expires go to an immigration office and get a 30 day extension, the 30 days starts from the last of your initial 60

, not the day you attend immigration.
John *********
60 day then 30 day extention then same day Cambodia run
