TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on renewing their UK passport through an agency, as their preferred agency is unavailable. Community members suggest alternatives, including using VFS Global in Bangkok (with one mention of the trendy plaza location) and express mixed opinions on the necessity of hiring an agent versus managing the renewal personally. Some emphasize that processing times at the UK Passport office remain unaffected by utilizing an agent, while others argue for the benefits of convenience, particularly for those living far from major cities.

I suppose it depends on how far the OP lives from either BKK or CM to access VFS Global easily.
It's up to him if he wants to pay someone to complete the process for him and how soon he needs a new passport.
I completed mine at VFS last week and was told up to 11 weeks.
Mark Jacob (Marks Sending Machine) posted recently that it was taking about 7 weeks.

Just to be clear, not one of these agents can make the process any quicker. If applying for a new passport , the application process requires nothing more than filling in your name address date of birth etc and providing a photo with a payment. That's it. If you need an agent for that, how on earth do you manage to go to the bathroom on your own?
I don't have to take a flight to get to the bathroom. 2 trips to Bangkok plus a hotel room and time wasted is more expensive than mailing your passport and application to an agent in Bangkok who can do it for you.
The OP was also seeming to infer that there's some special treatment from the UK Passport office if you use an agent which is simply wrong. Not the same situation using an agent for Thai immigration
an agent can save you 4 flights to Bangkok or Chiang Mai and back. If you live near VFS (Bkk office or CM office), go yourself in person. If you live far away, it's much cheaper and easier to use an agent who can send and collect the passport for you. I used Mark Jacob this time and I live on Samui.
If you can't manage to copy your passport or driving licence as proof of address, it must be a real struggle renewing your visa. As i understand, the passport doesn't have to be collected in person which saves one. For people like yourself living in far flung corners of Thailand, it's understandable if you use an agent rather than travel to CM or BKK but the OP seems to be resident in Pattaya which isn't such an inaccessible location compared to yourself
