How can I obtain a medical visa in Thailand, specifically for psychological treatment?

Does anyone have experience on obtaining a medical visa within Thailand ?

For example change from ED visa to Medical visa due to illness.

Would it be granted for treatment such as seeing a psychologist ? If anyone has been through this process specifically please let me know.

From my personal experience, pre-Covid doctors were aware the immigration bureaucracy was looking over their shoulder and would come down hard on them if they abused giving medical extensions. This is likely a new request of this psychologist, so he/she may not be aware of the road they may be going down.

I have SLE and got a letter from my specialist but was denied at immigration. I then paid a lot of money and was given it. 😏

Now we have paid for the Elite Visas as I can’t be bothered with all of it.

Being that you are not Thai, and you did fly into South East Asia at some point, I doubt immigration would accept you specifically needing a Thai psychologist for any mental problem that would prevent you from flying to your home country, and seeking psychological help in your home country.

, it is all up to immigration. They turn down a number of questionable attempted medical extensions. Just because a doctor gave a letter does not mean it is automatic, and, just as is true for everything in life, there are extreme exceptions to everything.

there is no real "medical VISA" that you can get in country.

And you can't change your ED visa to anything else.

BUT

What you could do is apply for an extension of stay based on medical need. It takes a letter from a doctor/hospital and you go to the immigration office and apply for the extension. They can issue an extension for up to 90 days at a time. Totally up to the immigration officer and the documentation you have from your doc/hospital as far as how long of an extension you get.

Not heard of a medical procedure for a psychologist, but I guess if your psychologist certifies that you have a medical condition that requires treatment, then it's up to the immigration officer. Good luck with that one!

. Yeah....it's an interesting one. People are going to extreme lengths to stay in the country. A friend of mine is even contemplating marriage after immigration knocked back his Non-O "buffalo dependency" visa! 🤣
