TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK citizen seeking a retirement visa in Thailand should know that a criminal record clearance certificate may not be necessary for the Non-O visa, as it has fewer requirements than the Non-OA visa. For criminal record clearance, the ACRO (Association of Chief Police Officers) in the UK can issue the certificate, or a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check can also serve the purpose and may be expedited. A medical certificate can be obtained from any doctor or hospital.

A dbs will do it - just go online you can use an agency or do it yourself which can also be expedited. You don’t need ACRO which takes forever, unless they have changed the rules again.

Non O does not need those.

What’s the difference between non OA and Non O

Advantages and disadvantages
Stuart ***********
@Peter ********
non oa requires criminal checks and annual insurance. Non o requires proof of funds, so to extend each year you need 800k baht in a Thai bank account. Most people choose the non o, as you don't need the specific insurance and you don't need to leave Thailand to extend year on year.

thank you Stuart

You may be applying for the wrong visa? The non-0 visa doesn't need those things.
Stephen ********
Surely you could arrive in Thailand on a visa exempt and apply from within? No need for any record check as far as I am aware

@Stephen *******
he would be better if doing for a non-o in home country than non-oa, or non-o in country.

Medical certificate from any doctor or hospital.
Andi ***********
UK criminal clearance cert via ACRO, the police dept for issuing such certificates.
Brandon ************
First figure out if the Non-OA visa is actually the visa you want to apply for. Most people actually want to apply for the non-O visa which does not require any of those things.

can you get the medical certificate in Thailand or do you need to get in UK for the retirement visa once I apply for it ? πŸ™
Graeme ******
@Robert *******
you cannot get a non oa visa inside of thailand, only a non o visa. Although to get a non o visa inside of thailand requires a thai bank account which is very difficult if you don't arrive with a non o from the uk

remember you'll also need thai medical insurance from an approved supplier ( that meets the non oa requirement and is recognised by the embassy).
Graeme ******
@Robert *******
yes if you want a quick turnaround
Graeme ******
@Robert *******
is it the non oa visa really what you want?
Graeme ******
@Robert *******
the non o retirement visa doesn't need one only the non oa
Brandon ************
@Robert *******
You can get it wherever you want. But you can apply for a non-OA in your home country.

non-O is the non-immigrant visa? πŸ™
Brandon ************
@Robert *******
they are both non-immigrant visas. That's what "non" means. Non-O is "Other" and covers many things like retirement, marriage, volunteer, etc. But it's a 90 day visa.

The non-OA is also a non-immigrant visa but it has much higher requirements and is a 1-year multiple entry visa.

Most people want the non-O as they don't want the insurance requirement.
