For the retirement visa, I noticed there is a criminal and medical check that is required. Could you explain what they are looking for when completing the medical exam?

TLDR : Answer Summary
For the Thailand retirement visa, applicants must undergo a medical exam and a criminal background check. The medical exam typically assesses overall health and may screen for specific medical conditions, but the exact requirements can vary. Some commenters share experiences with related visa types (like Non-O and OA visas) that also demand medical documents, highlighting the necessity of mandatory insurance and financial proof.

Another option (which gets around the insurance, the medical certificate & the background check) is to get a single entry tourist visa from the thai consulate in your country before you wing your way here.

Once you're here you open a bank account and transfer in the 800K baht. Then you go to the immigration office in your area and apply for a 90 day Non-O visa for 2000baht.

It will go under review for 2 weeks then you go back and get the 90 day stamp and Non-O visa inked in.

THEN you wait until your funds are in the account for 2 months and go apply for the yearly extension for 1900baht. It will be granted on the spot.

That's how many people are doing it to get around that 3 million baht mandatory insurance requirement on the OA and OX visa

post in english, AND understand that there is a difference in the Non-O visas issued INSIDE the country and the Non-OA and Non-OX issued at a thai consulate.

Inside the country the visas/extensions are sold by the Royal Thai Police Immigration Division, OUTSIDE the country at the thai consulates visas are sold by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office two separate government entities

It is NOT bypassing ANY law, it's not a rule INSIDE thailand at the immigration office it's a rule OUTSIDE the country at a consulate.

Know what you're talking about before you comment. ๐Ÿ™

you are talking about getting a Non-OA visa in YOUR country before you wing your way here. That's the visa that requires a background check and a medical certificate, the proof of mandatory 3 million baht insurance and proof of funds)

There is a form on the website of the consulate you're applying at that you have the doc fill out and sign.

The form looks like this
