Going to be transiting in Bangkok overnight this weekend. Starting out by Robinson's Lat Krabang. Want to get an esim that night to use as we prepare to move to Thailand. Don't want the tourist kind, rather a permanent esim prepay I can put money on and renew every year or six months. Anyone do this recently. Can I just go to a 7-11 with passport and buy an esim intended for residents rather than short term tourist?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is looking to purchase a permanent eSIM in Bangkok for use during their transit and potential future residency, specifically avoiding tourist options. Comments suggest that major companies like Dtac and AIS offer eSIM services, with recommendations to buy online for better prices. While 7-11 may sell eSIMs, there seems to be a consensus that purchasing directly from a telecom company office might be easier due to registration requirements.

Easiest for me is to just go to the desired telephone company office and buy it there. 7-11 stores have difficulty filling out the form that registers the SIM with the government (usually done with a Thai ID card) but must be filled it manually when copying information from the passport.

I don't have personal experience of it, but I have seen a lot of people recommend Airalo e-sim that you buy online.

I changed my dtac number I’ve had for about 10 years to an eSIM about 2 years back, as was losing it when swapping sims out when visiting other countries,,, you can download the Dtac app and purchase the eSIM from within the app as an option

thank you for this. I'm not in Thailand right now and DTAC won't allow me to see the esim and plan options. It knows I'm outside Thailand and only allows me to see tourist options. I'm arriving tomorrow and will start the app soon as I land and purchase.

I’m currently working outside thailand right and can access the app anywhere for top ups etc, but I’m not sure about first registering the eSIM outside the country, if you have a vpn you could possibly try setting the vpn to thailand and try that method , but yeah should be easy enough to do when you land
