Yes, you can use an eSIM on a phone that has only one SIM card slot in Thailand. Many major Thai carriers offer eSIM services, and users have successfully employed eSIMs alongside physical SIM cards. However, not all phones support eSIM functionality, so it's essential to verify compatibility with your device. Users have shared experiences using various combinations of eSIMs and SIM cards from different providers, including Thai carriers like AIS and True, as well as international SIMs.
You can have multiple esims but only one can be active at any time.not all modern phones have esims capability.Have Woolies in Oz Esim and True Thai Esim on my phone.Just a matter of switching back and forth in connections.
I converted my swiss subscription postpaid to prepaid esim and inserted my pretty old prepaid thai sim to my iPhone 11 before moving here. dtac is now postpaid but occasionally need to reveive texts from switzerland. i always keep around 500 baht on that prepaid that the number doesn’t expire
I use an eSIM on true, i did have a SIM card for a while then went into the shop and converted to an eSIM, there is an option on the true app to convert to eSIM but couldn’t get it to work
If your phone only has one SIM card slot and/or pre-dates eSIM’s (as does my iPhone 8 Plus) you could choose to buy a pocket WiFi router. Otherwise, if you don’t need continuous access to mobile data, free WiFi is widely available in Thailand in hotels, coffee shops and even the most economical noodle restaurants.
Many phones, including new high end ones, do not support eSim. Carrier supports it but not the phone. All eSim providers will give you a list of supported phone models.
