What is the process for applying for a retirement visa in Thailand and how does the 800,000 Baht requirement work?

Yesterday I finally applied for my one year retirement visa here in the Korat immigration office and it went ok. I am Australian and deposited the required 800,000 in my K-bank a week earlier. The only hiccup was the bank statement and updated passbook that both had to be issued from the bank the day of application. Meaning i had to go back to the bank and get new ones and rush back to immigration. I did offer to show a credit advice as proof that the funds were from abroad, but they said they did not need it.

Everyone was polite and helpful, but some confusion initially about what happens next.

I arrived in Bangkok on October first and got the 45 day exemption. Eventually after I had paid and submitted my application, I was told that they would not stamp me today, but that I come back on Nov 11, 3 days before the 45 day exemption expires, and I would be stamped for 90 days, presumably allow the 800,000 to โ€œcookโ€ for the required two months. After the 90 days I will get my one year visa.

I can leave Thailand during those 90 days if of course I get a reentry visa.

I am pretty satisfied with this outcome as it stands and I just want to thank this group and those who gave me some advice earlier ๐Ÿ™‚

TLDR : Answer Summary
An Australian expat successfully applied for a one year retirement visa at the Korat immigration office, having deposited the required 800,000 Baht in a local bank. Despite needing to obtain updated bank statements on the day of application, the process went smoothly. He was informed he would return on November 11 to receive a stamp for an additional 90 days, allowing the funds to 'season' in his account. The expat found the staff helpful and reported no significant issues throughout the procedure.

ONE WARNING PEOPLE

This is not a group about how to open a bank account.

I deleted all the queries about it in this thread ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Post on a group related to where you live in thailand to ask about that.

there is a young guy at the initial counter where they check your documents. He speaks excellent English and is exceptionally helpful. They also have some other young staff (students? Interns?) walking around helping you decipher and fill out those ridiculously incomprehensible forms.

no office stamps non-O visas and new 90 day stamps the day you apply. It's totally normal for you to have a 14 day under consideration period (the 11th is 14 days from yesterday the day you applied)

You just go back on that date with the passport and the blue/green receipt that shows you paid 2000baht and they'll ink in the Non-O visa and a new 90 day stamp.

You can apply for your yearly extension when you have 30 days or less left on your new 90 day stamp and your funds have been "seasoned" in the account for 2 months

You'll need all the same copies documents, and new bank letters to apply for the year extension for 1900baht

Thanks. I was wondering about the rationale behind the November 11 date. They did not mention โ€œ14 daysโ€ and there was some confusion when the staff at the window where documents are initially checked said โ€œ30 daysโ€

Good to know I have a 30 day window at the end as I plan to leave Thailand (with a reentry visa) during those 90 days
