Hello all,

I am seeking to apply for retirement visa based on Non-o marriage in mid 2023. I do have thai Bank account Krungsri(2020-present) that meets 800k baht requirement and have a proof of residence address(house in BKK). I am a US passport holder. What are the steps for DIY(no agency/3rd party)?

Any advice would greatly appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is seeking guidance on how to apply for a retirement visa in Thailand based on a Non-O marriage. They confirm they have the necessary funds in a Thai bank account, proof of residence, and are a US passport holder. The conversation includes clarifications about the distinction between a retirement visa and extension, and advice on the process for changing visa status at the local immigration office.

If you're already on a marriage extention of stay, you can cancel that at your local immigration office and change to a retirement extention providing you meet their requirements.

Does it work on expired visa single entry Non-O and now based non-O extension?

@Kev ***
Yes, if you're on an extention of stay from your origional Non Imm O

@Steve ******
he’s not. It sounds as though they had an initial Non O visa then got a Covid extension.

If that's the case he'll need a new Non Imm O. Ive only given the options if he currently has a Non Imm O visa or is currently on an extention of stay from a Non Imm visa.

@Steve ******
yes and as the last date for getting a Covid extension was 24th August he’s run out of options to apply for an in county non O as they’d need 15-21 days on a valid stamp to do so.

If you’re on a Covid extension then your options are pretty much over. You would need at least 15 days (21 for some offices) left on a valid stamp to apply for a non O visa in country.

trying to work out if they’re on a visa or an extension. My guess the latter but the answer will change depending on which.

@Stuart ********
It wont change whether it's a Non Imm O visa or an extention of stay they just need to meet the 'retirement' extention requirements
Stuart *********
@Steve ******
you cannot change the reason for getting an extension off a visa. If it was issued for “marriage” as an example you can’t get an extension for “retirement“ from that. That why the answer would change whether they have an extension or a visa.
Steve *******
@Stuart ********
Are you sure? Ive seen people go from any Non Imm visas straight to retirement providing they meet the extention requirements.

@Steve ******
100%. If a non O visa is issued for X reason then you have to extend that for X reason. Once you’re on an extension then next time around you can change the reason for the extension providing you meet the conditions.
Stuart *********
You may have seen people post stuff about changing from X visa to Y extension but they’re just confused about “visa” and “extension”. So many are.
Stuart *********
You can change the reason for an extension from an extension. I.e marriage to retirement but not from the initial visa issued.

actual Non-O pdf file but expired in June, 2022. On extension Covid + Non o extension.

@Stuart ********
Yep. I just gave them that easy option if it is a marriage extention they're currently on.

Not quite sure what you’re asking. You mentioned retirement visa (assuming you’re meaning an extension not a visa) but based off of a marriage non O.

@Stuart ********
yes, correct. I would like to change my Non-o marriage to retirement visa. Please correct if I am wrong?
Stuart *********
@Kev ***
So what’s your current stamp? An extension based on marriage? An actual Non O visa (sticker in your passport or a pdf file?)

@Stuart ********
actual non O visa single entry PDF file but expired June, 2022. Currently on extension based on Non-O til Dec 15,2022.

@Kev ***
A non O visa (single entry) allows you to enter for 90 days. By my reckoning June was more than 90 days away from now.
