I’m a Queenslander, and inquired but decided to get mine here in Thailand. I do have to say they were very helpful and answered any questions I had and would even ring me.

Did mine in Melbourne and took a total of 15minutes. 10 minutes to lodge application and 5 minutes to pickup the Visa 2 days later. No problems at all.

was that a 1 year Non O based on spouse? If so how much did they want to see in the bank?

1 year Non O based on Spouse can only be approved from Canberra. Sometimes they approve it locally under consultation but they advise it may be sent to Canberra and take more time.

Each consulate has their own policies, and the ease of getting a visa in Melbourne may be different than Brisbane.
