I have Australian friend wanting to come for six months. Is the best option to go to consulate in Australia to get 6 months METV?
Can she get this in Brisbane where she lives?

TLDR : Answer Summary
An Australian planning to visit Thailand for six months can apply for a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) at the Thai consulate in Brisbane. Despite some previous confusion about whether the Brisbane consulate was issuing visas, it appears they are currently processing METV applications. It's advisable to contact the consulate directly for confirmation and to check documentation requirements.

It is more than clear that he could get the METV in Brisbane. Or he can choose the SETV as also mentioned. Good luck.

metv need be working, have around $7,000 in bank>
better just get a single entry tourist visa, extend once< go to Laos/Cambodia/Burma for new tourist visa
6 months!!

Agree with this - even on a 6 mo METV you only get stamped in for 60days so you still need to extend for another 30 days at Immigration and then do a border bounce to get the next 60 days and then a further extension. Unless they will be staying right on the border and so can just bounce in and and out each time for a new 60 days, without the need to travel to a border or extend at immigration, it will probably end up being more expensive than 2 * single entry visas and 2 * 30 day extensions.

I am not sure about the AU requirements. But if they wish to stay in Thailand for 6 months then I suggest they obtain a 6 month METV. I expect others more familar will reply soon.
