Has Bangkok Bank changed its policy on accounts for DTV holders recently?

Has the situation changed at all with Bangkok Bank closing down accounts of DTV holders?

My debit card is about to expire, and I’ve been avoiding showing my passport at the bank. Will they likely shut down my account if I go in to renew it? Anyone have experience with this?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The situation regarding Bangkok Bank's treatment of DTV holders has elicited varied responses from users. Many reported having no issues updating their accounts or renewing their debit cards, even when presenting a DTV. Although some banks have concerns over visa status, experiences vary significantly; staff in less tourist-heavy areas may lack awareness of strict visa regulations, leading to smoother transactions. Users generally suggest that maintaining an account is easier for those who have held their accounts longer than two years, as recent scrutiny is primarily focused on accounts opened illegally.

I've just been to Bangkok Bank in Udon Thani to set up facial recognition and there was no problem. Most staff outside main tourist areas don't know one visa from another. I don't think BBL are closing accounts because you have a DTV, but they are closing accounts that were opened illegally by agents in tourist areas.

I've had a local account on a tourist visa for 17 years, no I don't live here, I visit 8 to 10 times a year as I own a condo here. So far no issues.

Have you had your account for longer than two years? Under two years is the problem, as that ties into when all the call center scam accounts started. If you've had the account for longer than two years you should have no problem, but if it is less than two years..., well then the only way to tell is to go in.

I opened my Bangkok bank account with retirement visa 8 years ago, and I'm currently with a DTV. They updated my passport details and kept my savings account, they said I can't open any new account like a term deposit. This was central festival Samui.

Slightly off topic. But you can use Truemove. I recently downloaded and to test it out I put 1000 in it. Transfers and scans like a charmmmm. But not all stores accept it. Good for 7-11 and utility payments aswell as mobile topups. These are the 3 services options I chose. There are 6 options, but u can only choose 3. If you have a drivers license, you can unlock all 6. (My dl expired so…). Requires a scan of the passport biodata page - thats all. No need for visa or anything else. Oh, a face scan via the app also.

No one can really answer that question for you. I've heard of banks that don't care about visa status or residence permits at all. I was at the bank recently to update my account details, and they weren't interested in my residence permit. One bank will check it. Another won't care.

No need of bank card in Thailand if you have Thai bank account.

Use QR prompt payment or also QR for ATM withdrawals, it is even faster than by card.

Only bit issue in

where you need to use cash.

You don’t need your debit card. You can scan pay with your app and you can cardless withdraw money at the ATM with the app too.

if you passport has expired which we have on file they might make it difficult to login or to reinstall the app.

I had to update my passport for them to unlock it. It takes an hour when their procedure of wasting time...

I'm not sure if they really look At the Visa/stay you have if you had the account for a while.

For sure they never asked for 5 years only care when you open the bank account which is an even more difficult thing nowadays.
