Hi, just need some confirmation on an issue. I have a Non Imm A-O Multiple entry visa valid until Feb 2020. If I do a TM8 and leave Thailand for one month say in September, does my Visa remain valid until Feb 2020? Thanks for any advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Non Immigrant A-O Multiple Entry Visa is valid for one year from the date it is issued, irrespective of the holder's presence in Thailand. Leaving Thailand will not invalidate the visa, provided the holder returns before the expiry date in February 2020. Each entry before the visa expiration allows the holder an additional 12 months stay. To maintain this entitlement, a re-entry permit (TM8) is usually not required as long as the visa is valid.

The visa itself is 1 year valid from the day it is attached in your passport, does not matter if you stay inside or outside Thailand. As long as you enter Thailand before the valid until date on that visa sticker you get 1 year Admitted to Stay stamped in your passport.

What I was trying to determine is if I leave the country within the term of my Visa, is there a way to get the full 12 months. I have been told that if I leave say in September, on my return I can get a further 12 months, Sept 2020. I just wanted to get the full 12 months on my original visa.

You confuse me with the TM8 form. This is the application for a re-entry permit. If your Multiple Re-Entry Non Immigrant O-A visa, the sticker you got from the Thai Consulate is valid till Feb 2020 you do not need a re-entry permit as this is included in the visa.

Your non-0A is a multi entry and gives you 12 months each entry whilst its valid (in your case until Feb 2020). You do not need a reentry permit (tm8) whilst the visa is valid.

If you do an out/in just before the visa expires (Feb 2020) you'll get another 12 months, I.e. Feb 2021. IF you leave during this period you WILL need a reentry permit to keep the Feb 2021 "permitted to stay"
