I have a UK passport and O- A visa coming which should start from today. After entry to Thailand in Aug what is the length of stay that l can be out of Thailand before the visa defaults

I have been offered 6months work . I could possibly holiday to make it 3 months out a time or just stay out 6 months.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The O-A visa allows for a one-year stay in Thailand from the date of entry, and it's multiple entry, meaning you can leave and return multiple times. To maintain its validity, ensure that your total stays within Thailand do not exceed the parameters set by the visa's entry conditions, which are guided by the 'Valid Until' date on the visa itself. Thus, you must be cautious about how long you remain outside Thailand to ensure your visa remains active.

The visa is valid for 1 year from it's date of issue.

If you enter Thailand you get 1 year of stay stamped in your passport. You can leave and come back, it is a multiple entry visa and each entry gives 1 year from day of entry. You can do this till the Valid Until/enter before date shown on the visa itself.
