Was told by a fellow DTV holder that as long as you leave the country after 6 months, the 6 months gets reset

the way i read it, was that it is 6 months out of a year we get on a DTV but he seemed to think it just renews as long as you leave the country even if you have already stayed 6 months

interested to see if this is the case, great result if so but not how I have read it
Answer summary
There is a common understanding among DTV visa holders that leaving Thailand before the 6-month mark resets the duration of their visa. According to several comments, departing the country and re-entering grants a new 180-day stamp, regardless of how long they stayed previously. This implies that as long as one leaves before reaching 180 days, they can reliably renew their stay. However, if they want to avoid issues, it's essential to keep track of the 90-day reporting requirement, which also has implications for visa status.

Leave before 180 days and the timer resets for nth number of times; even if you return same day.

Its 6 months everytime you come in. If you come in Monday, you get a 6 month stamp from that day. If you leave two days later (Wednesday) and come back Friday you will get another 6 months from that date. If you leave after 159 days and come back the next day you get another 180.

Your friend is right.

Every entry gives you 180 days, and you are not limited on how many times you enter or how many days in a year total.

You can even extend the initial 180 days with 180 more days at a Immigration Office. But that is a hassle and they prefer you leave the country and come back instead.

Youll get stamped 180 days on every entry.

Even if you only leave for day, as i did a couple of weeks ago

People wants to complicate things. Leave BEFORE 180 days. It gets reset.

Done. As simple as that.

Yes you can only stay 180 days at a time max you can leave anytime you want in that 180 days when you come back in with active DTV you get 180 day stamp- keep in mind you still have to report every 90 days to immigration 15 days early allowed or 7 days window - if you leave in that time both clocks reset most DTV holders leave before the second 90 day report
