TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a single-entry tourist visa in Vientiane, having several recent visits to Thailand can impact your application. Although the issuance of the visa is ultimately at the discretion of the consulate, your travel history may be reviewed by immigration officers upon entry into Thailand. There are indications that rules regarding the maximum number of days spent in Thailand may change yearly; for instance, some travelers have reported that their past travel history may not carry over into the following year. Nevertheless, immigration officers have significant autonomy, and if they suspect that you are attempting to misuse the visa system, it may complicate your entry.
Whether or not you will get issued the visa will be up to the consulate. But be aware that having a tourist visa does not eliminate your history in Thailand which is what the immigration officer you stand in front of on entering Thailand will look at. A tourist visa is somewhat better than trying to enter visa exempt but is not a guarantee
My experience in Jan 2026 was that the slate is wiped clean at the start of 2026, or in other words , whatever took place in 2025 was not pertinent. I stayed in Thailand about 160 days in 2025.
As has been commented by others, the immigration officers have a lot of autonomy and if they suspect you are gaming the system you may have a problem.
