Asking for a friend . If you are on a Non -OA visa and do the extension by moving the 800,000 into a Thai bank , does the visa status change to a Non -O ? This based on retirement. Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
When extending a Non-OA visa by transferring 800,000 THB into a Thai bank, the visa status does not automatically change to a Non-O. The extension is processed based on the original Non-OA visa, which requires maintaining specific conditions like mandatory insurance. To switch from a Non-OA to a Non-O visa, one would need to leave Thailand and reapply at a local embassy or enter visa-exempt and convert within the country.

No. The extension is based on the initial visa, so mandatory insurance would be required.

The only way to get “off” a Non OA is to leave when it’s over and either get a Non O from a local embassy or enter visa exempt and convert in country.
